Another FF movie won´t hurt me!!!!!

darkhorse- 11-19-2007

I don't know about anyone else but when I heard a couple of years back that they were doing a film version of Pride & Prejudice and Keira was to be Lizzie Bennett, my first thought was: "Ioan's got to be Mr. Darcy!" We all know he can do 'haughty' (ie. Hornblower) and to me nothing screams sexy masculinity like a man in a frilly white shirt (haha!) especially if that man is Ioan. Matthew was all right in it but I did think he looked a bit uncomfortable in the role. Any thoughts?

Gaffer'sGirl- 11-20-2007

Darkhorse, Like you I enjoy Matthew McFayden, but would have perfered Ioan in the role, also.

Ioan does so well in costume dramas that I would have loved to see him as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. Matthew McFayden was good but Ioan would have been better for the role.

You are not alone, ladies! Am I right in thinking that AE's codename for Ioan 'Mr.D' in her articles is short for Mr. Darcy (sure I read it somewhere.....) Ioan would be a natural Mr. D., but I'm in a minority of people who find Keira Knightley intensely annoying. She would have spoilt that pairing for me. I'm sure I missed a good drama, by not watching her version of P&P and I'm sure Mathew will have been lovely (the world is full of Warriors alumni!).

Frances- 11-20-2007

I rather like Keira Knightley. What I find slightly annoying about her is that she seems to be cast for more than her fair share of roles (there was a period when I felt the same for Nicole Kidman).

Gaffer'sGirl- 11-20-2007

There have been a few things I've enjoyed Kiera's performances in and others like Stevie I find her a annoying. I'm sorry to say Pride and Prejudice was one of those. Funny because I think it was a role she got good critical reviews for. I just didn't like it overall as well as the Colin Firth version and there's not enough years between them to allow me to forget how good that version was.

I used to think Keira was great until she turned into the 'poor little Hollywood girl' whinger. She can act and she can look really pretty sometimes but there was this whole double spread page article in a newspaper here on celebrities who can never seem to be happy. She was one of them; and if there is one thing I hate it's celebrities whinging about how horrible their privileged high lives are. If Moulin Rouge was made again, I'd have Ioan as Christian.

and if there is one thing I hate it's celebrities whinging about how horrible their privileged high lives are. Yep, it's really annoying to hear celebrities whining about how horrible their privileged high lives are, which came to be following their own career choices.

Here's another one I've just thought of for those of us who like our boyo dark and slightly deranged: Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights! :thud I was reading it (again) last night; it's one of my favourite novels and I was reading the scene where (sorry this does contain a spoiler if you're ever thinking of reading it) he sees Cathy one last time before she dies and the scene is told through the viewpoint of Cathy's old nurse, Nelly: "..he turned to her, looking absolutely desperate. His eyes, wide and wet, at last flashed fiercely on her; his breast heaved convulsively. An instant they held asunder, and then how they met I hardly saw, but Catherine made a spring, and he caught her, and they were locked in an embrace from which I thought my mistress would never be released alive.." Ladies, at this point, please feel free to thud with me if you have just imagined Ioan playing that scene in his 19th century get-up, his curls loose... Sigh! Oh to be Cathy!

Gaffer'sGirl- 11-20-2007

Darkhorse, that would be another great role for Ioan.

darkhorse- 11-20-2007

Thanks, Gaffer's Girl! Hey guys, do you think I could get a job as Ioan's new casting agent? "Now just lie down on this couch right here, Mr. Gruffudd and let's see if we can fix this problem,"

darkhorse- 11-21-2007

Sorry about that last post, guys. The guttermaiden in me is going a bit feral today (down, girl, down!)

Shipmate- 11-21-2007

Darkhorse, I think you're going to fit in around here just fine!! :rotf: Yes, I'll vote for Ioan as Heathcliff, how about in Jane Eyre? A little older perhaps, but "there's always make-up",right?!! :naughty

darkhorse- 11-21-2007

Cheers for that, Shipmate! I know I've only been posting for less than a week but already I feel right at home here because you've all been so kind and welcoming. Mmm, Edward Rochester. Yes, I suppose maybe when he's in his 40's he could do it. Basically I just love my 19th century gentlemen. (in case y'all couldn't tell by now!) I think it would be so nice to go back to a time when men had charm, grace and manners and cared about how they look. Ahh! Maybe I'm just an old fashioned girl at heart. Love your avatar by the way, Shipmate. It's very, er, eye catching
