If Horatio had an iPodIf Horatio had an iPod, I would knit this for him.....

I wonder what he'd listen to? :Horatio wink:
Nothin'... he's tone deaf, remember?
Although he'd probably download the BBC news podcast.
What he really would want ... a GPS.
Oh clever, clever Hil. Good thinking about the GPS, I think any sailor would love to have one of those! Although the whole 'Turn left at next exit' wouldn't work too well, huh?

Okay :blush2: Homer Simson moment there. Doh!
I know being tone deaf means you cannot replicate a note accurately, but does it really stop one enjoying music? If so, perhaps I should have said "If Horatio had an Argos catalogue......"

I've met tone deaf people who can appreciate music, though they are unable to reproduce musical notes accurately. Actually, I've often wondered how often people are tone deaf because they lack musical training or education (so their problems replicating notes) or because they have difficulty or are unable to correctly hear relative differences between notes.
Yeah, but the book Hornblower does not appreciate music. He found it tedious to listen to ... although his distaste for something the Lady Barbara thoroughly enjoyed did not dampen their relationship!
He did enjoy percussion, however ... so anything Drum Corps-like might be found on his iPod.

 Yeah, it would have to be modified to spit out tack changes, degrees, starboard and port, yada, etc. et al! But it already is equiped with longitude and latitude readings so we're half-way there. Frankly, a sailor at that time would be totally thrilled with accurate longitudal readings ... something that troubled sailors, even during Hornblower's time period, at least at the beginning of his career.
Over the summer, we watched an interesting mini-series on tape called Longitude (it was aired on TV in 2000) starring Jeremy Irons and Michael Gambon and I recommend it for all who enjoy anything Hornblower related.

Yep, right. The book Hornblower seems to be one of those tone deaf people who cannot discriminate between musical notes and lack the sense of musical aesthetics, not just one who cannot reproduce musical notes.
However, since he did enjoy percussion, rhythmic music could do for him.
Okay, then!! Put a little Gene Krupa on that iPod!!!!!
So our Horatio would be totally into, like, the Ibizia dance scene? Go Horry!!!!!! :dance :breakdance :dance
(His jig was okay in the Even chance  )

This is what I love about international forums ... one's horizons broaden with ease!
Gene Krupa......fabulous drummer with Glenn Miller's orchestra back in the 1940's. Not that I was around then..........but I LOVE big-band music from that era!
This is a little off topic but..Shipmate there's a movie about Gene Krupa in the works. One of my other fav actors Brandon Routh is going to be playing Gene.
No Kidding?!?!?!! Hey that's great!!!
