StevieT- 05-09-2007

Aurora, you HAVE to see it! It's a really evocative film about British soldiers in Bosnia. Ioan does a very understated but moving performance. One of his best IMHO.

...( I noticed, Stevie and Mazee, that you were calling our friend, GNAT, "Natty." My apologies, Natty! I did mix you two up! Blame the hormones, or the diminishining brain cells. I'll go lie down in a darkened room, now..........(slinks away) LOL! Hey, no problem at all. I know I'm still working on settling in and keeping everyone straight, so your hormones are forgiven. :) Well, now that I'm here maybe I should add my little "hooked-on-Ioan" story. :) My boss is a really big fan of the real William Wilberforce, so he kept bugging me about this new movie coming out. I kept quasi-ignoring his enthusiasm because it didn't sound like the most exciting movie ever, so when I finally sat down and watched the trailer, I was shocked by its beauty and power-- THEN I was shocked by the sexiness of Mr. Wilberforce. I had no idea who he was, but, after seeing the movie once with my family, I had to know more about him. I had never seen any movie or character that spoke to me in the same way Amazing Grace and Ioan's Wilberforce did. I saw it twice after that first viewing and caught something different each time. Once I found IoanOnline, it was the interview clips that really made me a fan. He just comes across as so charming, polite, humble, and confident. I was drawn in...like a moth to the flame ;) Since then, I've seen Warriors, half of 102 Dalmations, the Hornblowers (except Loyalty- just haven't had the time yet), Happy Now?, This Girl's Life, and Great Expectations. Hey Gnat, you should try looking for 'This Girl's Life' on Netflix or BlockbusterOnline. That's how I found almost all of the Ioan movies I've seen. Both Blockbuster and Netflix have free trials if you just want to get the one movie for free, or you can rent one-at-a-time for $9.99/month. I had Netflix for a while and loved it. I only switched to BB because it lets you exchange your movies in-store. They both mail really quickly and it saves you money if you happen to rent more than 2 movies/month.

My apologies, also........I'll take the unaccountable route and say I was just following Stevie's lead!!!! Thanks for the correction.

quick request
I'll also post this in one other forum-- Anybody know if I can get Happy Now or Man and Boy for region 1 (whatever US is anyway?) and Blockbuster won't send me Soloman and G. so I guess I'll have to find that one too. Suggestions welcome.

Have you tried Netflix for S&G?

KJ- 05-13-2007
Bought S&G
Amazon had one pretty fair so I went a head and got it--sometimes its disappointing, low education standards, life in general, apple pie, over-hyped movies, very low availability of British imports; US can be kind of a downer. Thank for the info Riki!!

I just have to say Warriors! (You may know what it means to me.) And later on in Horatio series! I am not familiar with Warriors. What is it about ? Yes you should definitely see “Warriors”. I can say that I am not most objective when it comes to this BBC’s two part drama, only because I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina the place where the events of Warriors are placed and I’ve lived entire time here during war in my country. The story of “Warriors” begins when British soldiers are sent to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a part of UN Peacekeeping Forces in 1992. They witnessed atrocities carried out by Serbs and Croats. They weren’t allowed to assist innocent civilians and help them evacuate only because it was considered act of elaborating in ethnic cleansing. Ioan plays Lt John Feeley, alongside Damian Lewis as Lt. Neil Loughrey and Matthew MacFadyen as Private Alan James. They all gave out their best performances. Ioan even said he is most proud on this role. So, yes you should defiantly see “Warriors” (I am being bias at this moment) but don’t just take my word on it. Everyone who has seen it will say that it is something you have to see for yourself.

Yes, perhaps the best that we can say is that "Warriors" is a must-see, as it is a powerful movie, exceptionally well scripted, directed and acted and almost looks like a documentary in its telling the story of British soldiers helping out for the UN in Bosnia in 1992 and how they feel when they get back home. You should really see it and judge for yourself.

Well, like many of you here, I got hooked from seeing Ioan in Hornblower - totally mesmerising right from the start (not to mention also his lovely curly hair and big brown eyes!) It made me want to find out more about him, so I started collecting info from magazines etc. He made such an impression on me, and I was always convinced of his acting skills. I wanted to see what else he could do, apart from period drama. The next thing I saw was Warriors - very harrowing but probably (& I know he has said so himself) his best performance. I've managed to get pretty well everything he's been in ( not always easy), and have even managed to see him in a very early TV episode from the Welsh detective series 'A Mind to Kill'. Filmwise, I enjoyed his performance as Lancelot (although I wasn't all that taken with the interpretation of the story), but so far, there is nothing to beat 'Amazing Grace'! :thumbs up

Could you see his potential in the performance. I too, love his Lancelot - my favorite Lancelot performance and Amazing Grace - well I drove over two hundred miles round trip to see it "twice" - enough said! Gaffer's Girl

You are the first person I've heard of mention seeing " Mind To Kill". Could you see his potential in the performance. Yes. It was fortunate that they decided to run the series on Channel 4, & I only happened to see when the episode 'A Strange Affair' was on - so I recorded it. It must have been one of the earliest parts which he had after leaving RADA. He played the part of a local boy who was going out with a girl in the village. Their date ended in a row in a churchyard, and the following morning, she was found dead, and an ankle chain she had been wearing was missing. Needless to say, he was the prime suspect (although innocent). Because his character was a bit rough & ready - at times he came over as unsympathetic, and didn't cooperate with the police. He also suffered at the hands of the girl's family, and eventually came to a sticky end! I thought that he gave a powerful performance, and was very convincing. It certainly proved that he had the potential to play a contemporary role.
