My story is not much different than musicfreak's. I had known of him for awhile because of my mom and my aunt. My aunt had been a big fan of the Hornblower series and my mom saw him first in King Arthur, I think. But then she got into HH. I had seen TITANIC ages ago when it was first in theaters, but he was just another side character to me. My mom told me she was in it (years later) but as hard as I wracked my brain trying to remember him, I sadly could not. Until she told me who he played, then I knew. But really I went and saw AMAZING GRACE a few months back (big fan of Albert Finney and Rufus Sewell) and that's when his talent grabbed me. Along with the story which made me sob!!! Wonderful movie and great acting by the whole cast really. So then I got the urge to watch HH, which my aunt, thankfully, owns. LOVED THAT SERIES!!! And so that's my story. 8)

Ok. First post and I hope it comes out alright. I first saw Ioan on Titanic at the movies and noticed him slightly. The first night Hornblower was broadcast, I was hooked. Over the next three weeks, I watched every time it was broadcast. I made it to the theater to see Solomon and Gaenor particularly because of Ioan. Somewhere in there, I saw Wilde. In the U.S. we had limited access to some of his films for a few years, but I did seek out Great Expectations and the Forsyte Saga, even resorted to dragging a kid along with me to see 102 Dalamatians. Repeats of HH came out occasionally and then there was King Arthur and mulitple viewings. I missed Century City because I was in the process of moving, but just received a copy in the mail today courtesy of a fire sale.

King Arthur, King Arthur, King Arthur That's all I can say. I have the DVD and still watch it everytime it's on TV. Not to mention watching the DVD at LEAST 3x/month. Can practically quote the entire thing by heart (except for the Saxon parts, ff thru those!) I googled that-funny-sounding-name the very next day after I saw KA for the first time. I never saw Hornblower until I bought the box set. Noticed the good-looking guy in 102 Dalmations, but it was definitely the bearded curly locks lad in the black leather that stole my heart.

102 and Who was that!!
I noticed him first in Dalmations but never saw the whole thing; did not read the credits, did not see the opening titles, nothing. It actually took me a few years to connect the handsome officer Lowe in Titanic and the dashing Lancelot but once I did I was a gonner.

My mind escapes me.....
 So I really can't remember the first moment when I got hooked on Ioan. It has been years though, I can say that much. I am only 27 and I am already forgetting things....LOL I am glad to be here.

I first noticed him when I was just 6 in Titanic. Goodness knows what I was doing watching Titanic when I was 6. I was way too young  but I did notice him then and remember mentioning it to my mum that he was cute. 9 years later, I suppose it must because I'm a teen and discovering boys or something, I've actually grown more interested in him (and Victor Garber who plays Mr Andrews. He is gorgeous  ) day by day probably because of that movie

I first noticed him in Hornblower. I didn't fall for him because of his looks. I fell for Hornblower because of Hornblower's personality. He is such a gentleman, so proud, so polite, so charming, so loyal... And then of course, I saw that he was kinda cute as well, but I didn't think so at first... It took me about 3-4 episodes before I saw that. Then I guess I thought (as so many others seem to have, too) that Ioan was exactly as charming and polite and nice as Hornblower is. I don't know what to think about that anymore, due to the recent events...

Then I guess I thought (as so many others seem to have, too) that Ioan was exactly as charming and polite and nice as Hornblower is. I don't know what to think about that anymore, due to the recent events... In all fairness to Ioan: we would want him to be exactly like Horatio, in his private life and toward his fans, but he also played a character like Daniel in 'This girl's life' . Yet, we never want Ioan to BE like Daniel, now do we? So, personally, I try not blame Horatio/John Freeley/Lancelot/ Kevin Shepard or any of the other characters he created, for Ioan's actions. I love them so much, even if my feelings for Ioan are somewhat 'damaged'. Ioan is just a great actor. And I had noticed him in King Arthur, because I found Lancelot more interesting than Arthur himself. I liked Horatio, but prefered Archie. But what really blew me away was 'Warriors'. I was SO impressed with the movie, with the acting, but the last minutes are SO powerful and he played it SO well... "that" was the moment I fell.

First time Ioan caught my eye and got my heart
Hi, Sylviane….I just replied to your email! First movie: Amazing Grace. Only knew about him due to my being so impressed with Matthew Rhys in American TV show Brothers and Sisters. When I was surfing the internet for information about Matthew, somehow Ioan Gruffudd came up and I eventually came to Ioanonline. Started my own two blogs to talk mostly about Matthew in the beginning, but have branched out in my topics since. The more I visited Ioanonline the more I was impressed with the site. As stated at “online”, I have seen Amazing Grace 15 times. I like it. Look forward with high anticipation for the day in June when the DVD goes on sale. I would love to buy the script if I could find it. Since, I checked out The Forsyte Saga and some of Horatio Hornblower at the public library. Never thought I would do this, but after the references to it at “online” I purchased Titanic today. And also, King Arthur, which I am more interested in seeing. Some of the things that really intrigued me in the beginning was that Elle magazine interview with Matthew Rhys and Ioan just before he must have met Alice. And there was some video interview with Ioan in some hotel that I caught at “online” where the two guys end up going swimming in the hotel’s rooftop pool. And loved the"Dal..." documentary clip of Ioan with Matthew. Saw him on Craig’s show the night that it originally aired. I have promoted Ioan a lot not only on my blogspot blog, but at www.abc.go.com website of blog, “Bloggers and Sisters”, of Brothers and Sisters. I can’t imagine any character that I will see Ioan portray, that will dim the candle of William Wilberforce for me…sort of like a first love. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvYIjFtPQEk http://ilovemylifebrothersandsisters.blogspot.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzDlVq3Gg4I

you saw Amazing Grace 15 times? I may see it for a thrid time at my local theater. Which, I'm quite happy they are still playing it! But I am like you, I rented all the hornblower from the library then I rented them agian so I could record them (because sadly I can not afford the set).

I saw Ioan first in Titanic, thought "Oh, that guy's hot!", forgot about him pretty soon, then a few months later was flipping channels on TV, caught a scene of Warriors with Ioan in it, thought "Oh, isn't that the guy from Titanic?", watched the rest of the movie and from then on I kept getting on my friends' nerves by talking about the cute guy from Titanic and Warriors all the time. The next movie Ioan movie I watched was King Arthur and then I somehow heard about the Hornblower movies and remembered that my brother used to read the CS Forrester books when he was a teenager, so I had to check them out, of course. And the rest is history, I now own almost all of Ioan's movies and all 9 episodes of Century City. Warriors is the movie I like Ioan best in, closely followed by Hornblower.

I didn't notice Ioan until FF. But I remember watching 102 Dalmatians when it was released on dvd and thinking the lead guy was cute. LOL. Now I can't get enough of him. Especially as Horatio Hornblower.

I first got introduced to Ioan in the HH movie series. Both my hubby who spent 22 years in the US Coast Guard and I enjoy those historical maritime movies. He had read all the HH books. Haven't seen every one his films. I absolutely loved Amazing Grace. Saw it twice. One of his best yet IMO.

Hey Sylviane - what kind of a character was Daniel in This Girl's Life?? I've never seen it. ILML - Matthew Rhys is in Brothers and Sisters?? As in the show with Sally Field and Calista Flockhart??? :?:
