Re: Thursday
However, I have been over at imdb/ioan gruffudd and I would have to say that I am very disappointed. I know many peeps over there (and here) dont like a certain someone, but the comments are now getting quite disgusting but I am determined not to go and buy conccie to cope - undo all that good work I have done this week. Good work, indeed, Marian! I've gotten away from doing any kind of volunteer work, and I miss it. I'm always so exhausted after "real" work (not to mention depressed), but I know it would help to get out and do something. Not to tempt you further, but what is "conccie"? It must be good if it can counteract the imdb boards! FloMo  "conccie" - choccie (chocolate) Shows you how disappointed I was - just wrote and posted without proof-reading. I can understand how some people are still disappointed with a certain 2 people who can't let the whole sorry saga (IOL) go, but there are some over at imdb whose posts are just as nasty as a certain ''lady's'' action But you are right - I should resist the choccie - and I am doing so; it helps that the seratonin that makes you feel good comes from positive self-respect affirmations/thoughts (and exercise) as well as chocolate - so if I keep exercising and thinking/talking positive to myself - I wont want to eat "unsuitable" foods. Apparently, calling them 'bad' foods just increases the guilt factor - so it's now better to say 'unsuitable/unwise choices of food. Might help to stay away from imdb/ioan gruffudd for a while too.

"conccie" - choccie (chocolate) Aaah, choccie ... I know it well! :happy I do agree with you about the boards, Marian. I think it's amusing still for some people, for others a matter of honor to keep the issue alive. Others do seem to have lost all sense of proportion. It happens when you're angry and frustrated and the "other side" has disengaged (Have I mentioned my job lately???). But I guess everyone has to choose for herself when to walk away. FloMo

....and,FloMo, it's so free-ing when one does walk away too, isn't it? Been there, done that,as they say!

You know, after searching around on forums on the internet I have been assured further how lucky we all are to have had IoanOnline and now, IoanZone. These places are so much more welcoming and civilised and caring than a load of other forums I have visited. For example, on a forum for a singer called Mika I joined, it's like everyone is ignoring each other and everyone goes around in circles accusing people of copying or stealing comments, pictures, banners, avs or whatever. Also, a forum for Panic! at the Disco is so rude to each other. They mock each other for asking questions, they pick on people for being 'teenies', they hate newbies...I can't believe how good we have it here! There hasn't been one place on the internet I have found where people welcome new people in with open arms, where people help each other so often and just where there is a nice friendly atmosphere. Anyway, just wanted to say that. LOL.

I've had your same impression, Kaitlyn, when searching around on forums on the Internet.

I have often wondered why you'd create a forum 'in appreciation' 'dedicated to the great...' 'fans of the lovely...' and than spent all your time :censored , and :weeping over them. I just don't get it. I don't always agree with Ioan's statements, but in all, I will defend him.... too bad, he doesn't feel the same about his fans and that 'sorry seems to be hardest word' for him, BUT he's still a great actor and lovely to look at. And I almost recaptured my feelings for him, as I had a few months ago, when I saw Amazing Grace, and again found myself in absolute awe over him. He IS good.

I just don't get it. I don't get it either why you'd create or join a forum in appreciation of/dedicated to someone and then spend your time there bashing them or the other members of the forum. I don't always agree with Ioan's statements, but in all, I will defend him.... too bad, he doesn't feel the same about his fans and that 'sorry seems to be hardest word' for him, BUT he's still a great actor and lovely to look at. Ditto. Honestly, I have not found yet someone I always agree with and I've had lively debates with people I love, but if I really like somebody I won't let disagreements ruin the good that there is in a friendship/admiration.

May I interject a hearty "Hear,Hear!" to all you've been saying, Ladies? I feel so fortunate to have come to this forum the past few months. I feel glad to be meeting and 'talking' with all of you, and I too, cannot understand why nastiness has to enter into any areas of our conversations.................some of those other webs must just serve to let folks vent frustrations under the guise of promoting a star. I'm happy to "vent" about some things, but also know that I try to be a lady about it!! And, I'm proud to say that I've met a group of truly great ladies!!!

Agreed. I actually prefer friends who have opinions that can open your eyes to other ways to view the world and who are willing to share them while allowing you to share yours. You don't always have to come to an agreement on what you think. I also think it helps keep you from becoming insular and close-minded. As for Ioan, I'll stick with admiring his acting abilities and many of the characters he plays. Roles like Amazing Grace make that easier. And yes ladies and gentlemen, you live up to those names. Thanks Stevie for making this place so welcoming. GG

Ioanzone is a special place, my friends, and it's because we have all made it that way, by caring about each other and continuing to care for Ioan, even though he makes us want to slap him daft sometimes. I'm amazed at the way we seem to be able to speak our minds and still remain civil and concerned for the welfare of our little band and the world in general. My enforced times away at the moment are making me see my 'cyber family' with fresh eyes and I'm sure that the Zone is a fitting tribute to IOL and an honestly critical, but supportive, arena for Ioan and his fans. We have alot to be proud of and long may we continue!!!!!!!! :pink ellie Stevie

FloMo No, FloMo, what is your new job?? but I am beginning to think I might walk away from imdb/ioan too!! ;angry: guess what? GUESS WHAT? BIG news about my volunteer position working for the Red Cross. The op shop here with has everything from clothes, household untensils, bric a brac and books. But the retail organiser, Donna, has come up with a new concept for a retro/vintage shop. this shop takes all the designer & overseas labels and sells them for slilghtly higher prices that for the op shop clothes. Now, some people here are a little miffed that the op shop sells a designer/overseas label for more money than a cut price label as all the clohtes are donated, but I feel it devalues the designer's name to sell a second hand jersey that once cost $220+ for only $2. So this is why the Red Cross are setting up a new shop. I have only worked there for 2 weeks (Mon + Tues mornings) but this Mon, Donna, called me aside to tell me she was going to train me to take her place if she need to go home to the North Island for any reason. I was flattered that she thought so highly of me, only to find out yesterday that I am to be in charge of the new shop and that she wants my input into how the shop is to be laid out. She is also putting me in charge of training the new volunteers. KEWL!!!

Congratulations, Marian! That sounds like great experience and it is nice to be thought of so highly. I've been to several thrift type shops that have had a separate area for designer clothes, antique or high end jewelry, or books that have more value. For me, it's a bit of a mixed bag, in that it's always fun to find low priced treasure amongst items of lesser value, but on the plus side, it's easier to find the higher quality items and it means that the charity makes more money. Plus I think it's more likely that people will donate higher end items if they know they'll be priced realistically- like $20 rather than $2. Good luck in your new position. GG

Frances- 09-05-2007

Congratulations, Marian! You must have done a good job at the Red Cross to be asked to take on more responsibilities and it's good that they appreciate you. I also like the idea of realistically pricing items according to their real value. Good luck in your new position.

FloMo- 09-05-2007

That's great news, Marian! I think the specialty store sounds great. You might get some complaints from bargain hunters, but the charity has right to maximize the earnings, and I think most donors would agree. Congratulations! FloMo

Marian- 09-05-2007

thank you ladies!! I'll keep everyone informed as to what happens next ... but the charity has right to maximize the earnings, Donna has something similar to this written up on the white board in the sorting room!!
