I hope you'll have a great time in Portugal, HH!

marthe- 06-16-2008

HH, the song is very beautiful. You have a very nice voice, wonderful. I enjoy listening to your voice. And you are going on vacation to Portugal. Oh I am jealous, such a beautiful country. I hope you will have an very good time and good weather. :bye:

Enjoy Portugal, HH! You can entertain the tourists with your lovely voice! (maybe make enough to pay for next year's holiday! )

HH - I think my download had a mistake then, because it sounded like an old LP being played at a faster speed, sort of like Alvin and the Chipmunks. Not at all in a lower range or anything like your other recording. After your intro of how you were concerned about how it sounded, I thought maybe you were setting up a joke and I didn't want to give it away by saying that my download sounded rather unusual. I'm quite obviously not hearing what you sounded like in church. Your voice as I've heard it in the past is so beautiful - I wish I could playback what I heard and you'd understand my comment. Have a great trip to Portugal! The deer here are lovely. My sister said there were more fawns behind my parents' house yesterday. I took my camera and of course they were gone.

So Saturday morning, I got up an hour early to do my part for global warming and saving by by riding my bike into work. I've been doing this for the past few weeks, but for the first time it was going to be really great weather -temps in the low 60's, clear sky and no wind. No need for a jacket, so I could actually get a tan on my way to work. Other people must have thought the same thing as I saw about twenty-five people on the trial. Normal is three or four. It was a beautiful eight mile ride next to fields, flowers and the river into work. I worked my eight hour shift and noticed that the temperture was rising and rising and continuing to rise. The idea of riding home after eight hours of being on my feet became less appealing, but I was still determined to do it. At the end of my shift, I head out to my bike, helmet on, sunscreen, hop on the bike (which is quite hard with how stiff I am at the end of the day) and I hear it. FLOP! FLOP! FLOP! My rear tire is totally flat, not just low, think pancake. Evidently, the heat blew out the repair on my inner tube. Fortunately, I was still at work and not in the middle of nowhere, but I had to call my parents ask them if they could bring their truck to pick me up. So, I got home about an hour later that I would if if I'd have driven and needless to say the truck used more gas than my small car would have. Now, I wiil take the gas money I've saved the last five weeks and buy a new tire. While the ecological impact of riding my bike was an excercise in futility, at least it was good exercise.

I admire you for being able to ride 8 miles to work, GG! I'm afraid I'm not fit enough to do something similar, though riding next to fields, flower and a river - especially in fair weather - must be great.

JeepGirl83- 06-30-2008

GG! Wow, don't know if I would be able to do that, but I really admire you for using your bike to get to and from work. Bummer about the tire! But now and then cars get flats too. By the end of the summer you should have nicely toned muscles from your riding.

Gaffer'sGirl- 06-30-2008

Well, I wish I could do it every day, but sometimes they schedule me later in the day and I don't get off in time to make it home before dark. Since some of the trail goes through isolated areas where there might be critters in the evening, I just can't do it after dark. But I will get the tire fixed soon to make good use of the weather.

Shipmate- 06-30-2008

Sorry to hear that you had such a bad bit of luck with your tire. No, it WOULD be far too risky and even dangerous to try traveling after it gets dark. I admire you for making all the efforts that you do. You're a strong lady,Ms. GG!!!!!

WarriorSelma- 06-30-2008

Bummer about the flat tire Gaff! But good on you for riding your bike to work and making a difference and doing something against global warming. And exercising at the same time. Glad that you are being careful just the same about the time when you are taking a ride, especially in the evening.

I'm really worried. I'm guessing you have all heard about the situation with Russia and Georgia? And now, some of the athletes from Georgia's Olympic team are heading back home to be a part of the military and wage war against Russia. It's such a horribly frightening situation. Already 1500 lives have been lost and the Prime Minister of Australia and the President of America, I believe, have stepped out and more or less said they are with Georgia. I don't know about anyone else, but this has all come completely out of the blue, I honestly had no idea there was anything going on until now. So now, that is atleast 5 countries in the world currently suffering the pain of war. It's horrible.

Gaffer'sGirl- 08-09-2008

Quite sad. War is always horrific, but seems even worse when it erupts during a time like the Olympics that is supposed to bring diverse people together and promote friendship. We can only hope and pray for a quick resolution.

marthe- 08-10-2008

War, war, always war somewhere in the world, terrible. And why ? I just saw the news from the Olympic Games. In the category air-pistol, Russia won silver and Georgia bronze. The two women embrace each other and gave each other a kiss. The woman from Georgia said she was very happy when Natalia from Russia came to her. You see there is no war between the common people and the athletes. Those people are also afraid what is happening in their country. It is so sad. According to the news, the president of Georgia has asked the athletes to stay in Peking. I hope that gesture between the two athletes will be a sign to the leaders of the two countries, that everybody wants piece.
