I'm glad to hear your daughter is able to keep a positive attitude in spite of things being tentative for her, and that your some is improved though changing daily. I'm still keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers, Snogg. :hug

I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. Yesterday, I did my part for the environment and by body by riding my bike to work. It's eight miles each way on the Olympic Discovery trail. The weather was gorgeous and with plenty of flowers in bloom, it was quite pleasant. I rode through two parks, past cows, horses and sheep. I arrived at work about a half hour early thinking I could do this throughout much of the summer.
When I got there, I walked in the restroom to get ready for work and my face was :angry2: this red. No, I wasn't angry, but I looked like I was either :blush2:, :love2:, or :devil and it lasted for awhile. So, next time I do it I'll have to bring an ice pack for my face. Any body else have another solution?
Frances- 05-12-2008
You're rightly proud of yourself, GG. It must have been a great ride.
I don't think I'd be able to bike 8 miles to work and be there half an hour early (unless I left very very early, that is).
I'm afraid I don't have a solution for a red face, apart from an ice pack.

Good on you Gaff. Glad you've enjoyed the ride. I bit of exercise and it is fun and most of all healthy.
And as a solution: wear a lot of sunscreen. And here is a tip for you if your face gets red again from sun burn. Use a yogurt from soured milk and spread some on you face or whatever part on your body that was burned. It helps a lot!
Gaffer'sGirl- 05-13-2008
My skin is very sun sensitive, so I may have to try that the next time I get a burn, Selma.
I hope I can get a lot of rides in this summer and get in better shape.

Sunday I did also ride on my bike. I felt very good. I never do that but my childrens asked me to go with them for a ride. And it felt very good riding in the sunshine with a little bit of wind along the farms and in the nature which smells so good.
I should do that more because always sitting behind a desk is not so healthy.
Gaff, for a read face, I have no sollution, it is the same story with me. All I do is put some fresh water on my face. It is a sign of health.
Gaffer'sGirl- 05-13-2008
 I like that one. I'll have to tell everyone at work that my red face is just a sign of good health!. I enjoy riding in the countryside. It's much safer and more pleasant than riding on the city streets where I used to live. It is a great form of exercise.

GG, I applaud you on your new exercise. Good for you!
I am feeling quite relieved. A former student and now good friend is from Sichuan province in China, where the horrible earthquake hit. She lives here in the States. but I asked about her family. They are all safe, thank God.
However, both the earthquake and cyclone are such terrible tragedies. My heart goes out to the people affected by these disasters. I assume there are not Ioanzoners there, otherwise we should ask about them. There was a lovely young lady from Singapore at IOL. I don't know if she made the transition her.

I don't recall specifically anyone from Singapore who is now on IZ, but certainly I join with you in your concern for anyone in that area and particularly for any that might be a member.
I'm glad to hear your student/friend's family escaped harm.
Thanks for the encouragement with the biking. While it isn't a new activity for me, it's been since I had knee surgery two years ago that I've been able to ride that far. I can't run anymore so I'm happy I can ride far enough to get a good workout and with the gas prices replace my car on some trips.

My heart also goes out to the people affected by the earthquake in China Sichuan province and the cyclone in Myanmar.
I'm glad your former student/now friend's family is safe. It must be hard for her to be so far away from her family in a moment that must be very hard for her relatives.

I was really touched by an act of kindness yesterday at work. I work in a large retail store. At the time, I was assisting a cashier when an older gentleman came up with some flowers and one other item. He said he was a bit confused and was having difficulty finding a card he needed to make his purchase. He had it coming into the store.
After he hunted a few minutes, I suggested that he go to the customer service desk to see if someone found and returned the card and I would keep an eye on his basket. He headed off for the desk.
Well, the next customers were a family paying for a pizza. The father looked at us and said, "I'll pay for that man's purchase". He did. Then, he asked me to take it and the receipt to the man and just tell him that someone wanted to give him a blessing. He didn't want to be recognized other than that the bill was paid. So, I got to be the messenger and deliverer.
The older Man was quite surprised and pleased. I had a friend who used to do this at restaurants occasionally, but haven't seen someone do it in quite awhile, so it made my day.

Isn't that the swee-*test*-('") thing? How very thoughtful,......there aren't too many around like that these days!
GNAT0629- 05-30-2008
That's really awesome Gaff!! It is so sad that stuff like that is so rare these days isn't? But it's always cool to actually witness it.
