Thanks Frances!!! It's too bad you can't come down and we could meet up some place. :sad
Yes, that's really a pity that I can't take days off right now and come down to meet you. :sad Well, it will be for next time you get to Italy or next time I get to the US.
Bon voyage, Gnat!
PS: Can you believe that Sicily is the only region in Italy that I've never visited?

I'm very sad tonight. I don't know if anyone-else watches "Meerkat Manor" on Animal Planet, but I'm addicted to the show. The meerkats are so cute and watching them as they go about their lives is engrossing.
Well, on this week's episode, the meerkats are coming home and see a King Cobra. They mob it to turn it away from their burrow. They think they have been successful, but when they turn their backs, it slips into the burrow. If the burrow was empty, no problem. However, Flower's ( the dominant female) pups are down there. Fearlessly, Flower goes into the burrow to try to kill the cobra.
She does, but receives a fatal bite to the head.
I know it sounds silly, but I am crying over a little creature I've never met. She was a wonderful mother and a great leader. I am sad she is gone.
As Sean Austin(he nararates) said, "The desert has lost it's most beautiful rose". I will miss seeing her lead her little gang each week. I salute a powerful female leader( even if she was furry and had four legs). Here's to you Flower. The Manor won't be the same without you.
My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy but I'm going to go cry alittle more now. Thanks for letting me get that out. My chowder-head boyfriend won't stop laughing.

I've not watched the show, but I think meerkats are adorable. I can understand how you could become attached and upset. The way Animal Planet makes their shows you really feel sympathy for the animals.
Tell unsympathetic boyfriend ;angry: :angry2: :no no , it's ok to :weeping .
:hug GG

Is that the show with the meerkat named Shakespeare? I remember when it was on the television here, that little meekat (Shakespeare) was my hero. :happy I can see why it upset you though because when I saw a similar thing happen to little Shakespeare early in the series that was on in Australia, I cried. It's okay to cry at the show! Trust me!

I've not seen the show, but I can understand how you can be so taken as to be upset by Flower's fate. I always empathise with the animals I like when I watch documentaries about them.

I was totally riveted on a similar documentary a few years back, called 'The Pride', about lions. They have always been my favourite animal (blame CS Lewis) and to follow their daily triumphs and disasters was fascinating. I understand how you feel about the meerkats, emrysbard :hug

Oh meerkats :) I read (or rather watched the lovely pictures) about them in National Geography some time ago, and read how after a while they became so accustomed with the photographer he was able to shoot some very adorable shots... Some of them even used him as a watch tower, climbing on to his back and head for a better view.

Oh!! I love Meerkat Manor. At Christmas they showed this program throughout the day for about 3 days, and none of it was repeats.
I am sad that Flower has died, as she was a remarkable animal and very, very intelligent.
Not sure I want to commment on the boyfriend, but none of mine would never dare to do that!!

Thanks guys. I don't feel so silly now. Shakespere was on the show and I cried so much over his fate. Meerkats are so much fun to watch. Every-time one of them dies. I say I'm not going to watch again but I can't stop. In memory of Flower, Shakespeare and Carlos( the Don Juan of Meerkats). Yu have brought joy and a better understanding of Merrkats into my life. May the next generation be as great as you. Shakespeare has a succesor in Mitch, his younger brother. Don't know who can succeed Flower.

The weather is fine, nice and sunny today, and tonight I will know if I have enough money to go buy my ticket to Auckland to the Armegeddon expo and, hopefully, meet Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis) and get his autograph!! :applaud:
