I posted this in the Lost World, and Gerdie replied but I didnt make it back to uni to read her reply before contact was lost.
Anyway, My city library has a copy of "Making of Hornblower" and I found it just by walking in the front door. The stand inthe entrance is alway sused to promote various themes each week. Seems I now have a need to pay my fines :???: and rent the book!!

'The Making of (CS Forester's) Horatio Hornblower' (by Tom McGregor) is a behind the scene of the making of the first series of HH and includes a lot of photos and information on the movies as well as interviews to the cast and crew. It is very interesting, so you should definitely rent it, Marian.

By the way, I was just talking to a friend of mine on the phone and he says he thinks he has the Making of.....book in his loft! He's hunting as we speak!

That's a book I'd love to see Marian and haven't found it yet.
So, where is our fearless book club leader? Are we starting soon or waiting until the end of May? I don't want to miss it.

Hmm. Tried to post this already but must have done something wrong.
I've ordered a copy of Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, but it hasn't arrived yet. If I get it and read it in time, I'll join in.
Assuming you are starting with that book?

I've read the making of Hornblower by Tom McGregor from my library, if I find it in any bookstore I'll be sure to buy it! Very interesting, like Frances said, some great pictures and behind the scenes chat.
I also bought a three-in-one book of Hornblower, with Ioan on the front which consists of Mr Midshipman Hornblower, Lieutenant Hornblower and Hornblower and the 'Hotspur'. Chunky book, but excellent to read!

Admissions time! I have that book, Rox, but only got half way through the first book as i found the style very stilted compared to the Sharpe novels I was also reading at the time. But I promise to persevere for the sake of the Yo Zone!
(Sigh, so little time and so many great books to read!)

OK ... so is everyone who wants to be in the Zone's Book Club already have Mr. Midshipman Hornblower?
Who's in? Who's still waiting? Shall we begin June 1?
And how much time shall we take for each book? One month? I suppose we could start each book sooner, as long as each book has IT'S OWN THREAD ... that way newcomers can join in whenever and wherever they wish.
I can't wait to read everybody's thoughts!!
PS --- hang in there, guys. The books get better!
Frances- 05-06-2007
I have the book and am going to start re-reading it very soon. Can't wait to start discussing it.

Hi Everybody,
How will this work? Do people just jump in and chat about each book -- or, are there any guidelines for discussion? I've actually read them all (more than once in some cases). I've got my nose in non-fiction for the most part, so these books have been a great diversion.
Julia
Oh, and my youngest son (who was responsible for my introduction to Hornblower 5 years ago) was also given a copy of The Making Of... . Very charming stuff in there. :pirate:
