Hey guess what?
So it's been about, what? A month since our last snow here in lovely Chicago?? I thought we were done. I thought it was over. Thursday was the first day of Spring officially and about 97% of the snow had melted. Now we're facing flood issues as our rivers are swolen to a point of combustion from all the melting snow mixed with the rain we've had in recent weeks. So why not Mother Nature?? Why don't you go ahead and dump yet another FOOT of snow on my doorstep??!!! Please??? Because I'll be jonesin for the snow come June. *sigh* Yeah we got completely bombarded by a nasty blizzard that brought what they officially call "heart attack snow" - very wet and very heavy. Fortunately, this time around my employers actually took pity on us and closed the office at 2:30 p.m. When I got to my car at the station finally, I find my poor baby immersed in 2 ft. of snow. All.the.way.around. I literally got down and dug - with my hands - the snow out from around my tires so I could actually get out of my spot. I even resorted to kicking the snow from behind my car as I was parked nose in and my car is front wheel drive. Unfortunately this came to nothing as it took me 4 attempts to get out of this spot. Thankfully I had nobody on either side of me by this time. So, finally and with GREAT patience (which I sat praying to God the whole time for) I got out of my spot. I had no further incidents until I got home and trying to do the whole "running start" up my driveway into my garage - yeah. No go. I got stuck justshy of my garage. Had to back down and out of my drive and give it another go, because of course my association hadn't even bothered attempting to clean our driveways off. But I did get in and was able to get my very wet clothes off and into nice warm jammies for the rest of the night. Yay. Then I turned my TV on to discover that my satellite lost its signal. Boo. Well of course, it didn't surprise me since the storm hadn't ended. Ok, that's fine. I've got dvd's I can watch. But then it never came back. Boo. So I ended up calling my service provider this morning and while going through talking to tech support and rebooting the receiver, it came out that it was due to the 8 inches of snow that was all over it. *sigh* Great. Now I have to go outside into the yard where the snow is piled up into large snowdrifts that would make any snowmobiler excited - without boots. Boo. But I got it cleared off and the signal came back and then I had to defrost for the rest of the morning.
Happy Spring. Happy Easter freakin weekend.
And now today, the snow already started melting. In droves! Pools of it melting. Yep, that'll make it easier on the rivers and lakes in my area.
Then I understand that the same person who predicted our incredibly snowy winter - has now predicted a very wet spring. Boo. :???: So I guess I should start building my arc sometime soon. That'll be my mode of transportation I guess.
Brother. Well Happy Easter everyone! :bye:

That just sounds miserable. We've gotten a bit colder again, but snow has been kept to the foothills and not sea level. Well, I hope you don't get hit with 40 days of rain and have a great Easter, Gnat.

It doesn't look like spring has begun here either: it's rainy and rather cold (around 9° C/48° F) and snow is back to the foothills.

We've been having snow here in the UK too. Not as much as in the states but as usual with the English infrastructure the country grinds to a halt.
I'm just excited that it snowed (not settled) on my birthday. The first time in my life. I'm such a kid.
Happy Easter.

They were saying we might get lowland snow this week, but none last night. The last two days it hasn't made it above 45 degrees F. Far too cold for me. I guess we are a bit like your part of England, Waresl; it doesn't take much snow here to get a school snow day off or people calling into work.
Frances- 03-24-2008
I can still recall that when I was in 9th grade we got 4 days off school because of snow.
Shipmate- 03-24-2008
Hey! Have you seen the Abominable Snowman up there anywhere yet???Sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh! I've been seeing the news reports on tv,and I feel so bad for you guys up there!! Bet Summer can't come soon enough.......
WarriorSelma- 03-24-2008
I can't believe this whether neither! One day we have sunny day with 20 degrees Celsius and the next a clod rain shower turning into snow and temperature dropping 17-18 degrees. It really effects everyone not just the ones who have health problems, not to mention people who have to go to work and be outdoors on a days like these.

Yup, it changes in the blink of an eye. Yesterday everywhere white and freezing, today everywhere dry and mild (ish). Tomorrow....who knows? But what would we Brits talk about at the bus stop if it was always the same? Does it get very boring in California? I'd like the chance to find out......... :whistle
Only sixteen weeks til Tunisia :sun - sun, sea, sun, sand, sun, camels, sun, souks........need I go on? :pink ellie
Frances- 03-25-2008
I like changeable weather... Besides providing a topic for conversation and something to complain about, it makes appreciate spells of fair, mild weather much more than if you had it all year long...
Gaffer'sGirl- 03-25-2008
Frances, I agree, the changing weather makes you appreciate the glorious days like we had yesterday - Sunny and clear - still quite chilly, but nice for a bike ride.
Believe it or not, people complain about the weather in California, too. It doesn't change so quickly, so the complaints are more about how many days in a row it's rained in the winter or how long it's been over 100 degrees F in the summer. People must just talk about weather everywhere.
Tunisia sounds really great about now and we are back to cold and cloudy weather today.

The Abominable! That's who that was lurking in my yard Friday night!!!!! :hammer Anyway, it's supposed to get into the 50's today, but we've got F1 tornado like winds howling throughout the land - so there's almost no chance of it actually feeling that "warm".
Gaffer'sGirl- 03-25-2008
Wow. Your part of the country has really been getting hit.
Frances- 03-25-2008
No tornado here, but wind has been sweeping my area since yesterday. Well, at least clouds and rain are gone and today was a sunny day.
