Fitness Disasters
Have any of you ever had a fitness disaster? You know, you are trying to get into good shape for summer and you do something stupid, ie: Injure yourself so you can't work out for a few days.
I had one of those today. I decided after doing twenty minutes on the Elipical machine that maybe going for a walk would be more fun, especially since I'd like to walk a Marathon in October. Fingers crossed and a lot of training. I threw on my running shoes to make the five mile roundtrip to the bank, stop in at work to check my schedule and then back home. It was pleasant enough walk into town as I headed along the trail and across the Dungeness River Bridge. Not too hot, not raining and I saw two Stellar's blue jays flying around and bald eagle perched in a tree. How I wish I had my camera! Got into town in good time, errands done. But, my sock seemed to be irritating the bottom of my foot. It felt like a giant rumpled lump or like a stone was caught. I took off my shoe. No sock wrinkle. No stone. No insole in the bottom of my shoe! I had removed the regular insole to put in an orthotic several days before. Took out the orthotic and never put back in the insoles. No wonder my feet were uncomfortable. With no car and no buses, I had to make the return walk. Two and a half miles later, I had a huge blister on the sole of my foot. I was limping along instead of power walking. And now, I'll be lucky if I can stand the next couple of days, let alone go for another walk. Next time, I'm taking the bike and I may have to rethink the Marathon.
Any of you have stories to share?

All I have to say is that I'm just one great big fitness disaster, from getting out of bed in the morning to sitting at my desk at work. Fitness just dosen't seem to like me.
Probably stems from my brother being the sporty one and all the PE teachers at school thinking I would be the same. Although he did use me as a tackle dummy for Rugby practice (I just wished he told me when he was going to attack) that might count.
Well I can tell you, you don't get a figure like this by working out. :happy
GG I hope your foot feels better soon.

I've never been truly sporty in my life (actually, my motto could be "I'm a wet sock and proud of it" when it comes to sport).
However, I can remember that I once decided that I had to get fit and subscribed to a gym. Well, on the first day I stepped on a treadmill, started it and fell almost immediately: I was lucky and got out of it with just a splayed ankle, but I provided some entertainment to the people who were watching. From that moment on, I just walk or ride horses when I want/need to exercise.
Hope your foot will be better soon, GG.

It is feeling better than I thought it would. I can at least step on it today.
I've always been klutzy in sports, too. At least, none of my four brothers played a sport like rugby. They were all runners. I have tried individual sports in hopes of improving. Not so lucky so far. My knee surgery was the result of tripping over my own two feet and I took a semi-graceful piroette off my bike a year or so ago.
I would love to ride horses, but alas I'm highly allergic.
Frances, you ride your bike a lot, don't you?

I've always ascribed to the "enthusiastic observer" and "side-line cheerleader" part of the fitness crowd myself. Taking long walks isn't bad at all either. Ouch! That hurt foot sounds painful. Poor baby! Take care of it and feel better soon with it,okay?! Owww------

Well, I have to admit to being pretty sporty until I had kids and the RA kicked in. Now I just walk everywhere I can. However, we recently bought a Wi-Fit and I crocked my dodgy hip doing the Hula Hoop  Pat and I couldn't stand for laughing at the Football Heading (round here a 'head the ball', or 'heed the baal' as Geordies would say) is another name for a lunatic. Say no more!
At least we weren't as bad as my nephew, who gave his dad a black eyes by accidentally letting go of the controller in the Baseball game! (now he knows why the controllers have a wrist strap! )
We recently went real bowling and I felt like I'd done ten rounds with Mike Tyson the next day!

I know of other people who are allergic to horses. It would be really bad luck if I were though, considered how much I love horses: I've always said that breeding horses is the only reason why I could move to the countryside.
Frances, you ride your bike a lot, don't you?
Yes, I forgot to mention that I ride my bike a lot. Besides liking it, it is also a necessity for me, since I don't have a car.

Hey Frances, I know of a farm in the Pacific Northwest complete with Horse barn and Corrals that's looking for a new owner.
As for bowling, I actually bowled a 3 once and yes that was for the whole game. Needless to say, I did not laugh when the press found out how badly now President Obama bowls. I have improved my bowling skills since then, but at this point, I'm always just glad if I break 100 bowling and try to have fun.

Wow, considered my love of horses and my wish to get to know the Pacific Northwest of the States better, that is my dream place.

This is what I call a good reason to buy the farm...

Wish we had some horses on the farm right now. Although I do have friends with horses nd the trails and fields abound, so horseback riding Welshmen come on up. :knight 1 :cowboy:

Just yseterday I tried to do stomach crunches and I hurt I don't know what exactly but I stopped! My back, just under my back. It felt painfull, pffff and I had to stop my crunches. Haha I am pathetic! It was the first time since ages that I was trying to do crunches. Maybe my body is not used to that.

One question. If you hadn't hurt your feet would you be able to go back walking to your home? If yes, I think we all learned to check out the insole of our shoes in the future, cause it happened to me once too. I haven't got the blister or anything but the bottom of my foot hurt just the same, probably irritation.
Please continue when your feet feel better. Don't stop.
And on the case of fitness I never have done it in the way like going to the fitness club to practice but have always been sporty type loving soccer, volleyball and most of all badminton. Me and my friend Iris used to play badminton for hours. In front of my house is street and because it is end of the road kind of street not many cars were going in or out and if the did they moved slowly and we would step away for them to pass and continued playing. Often it would get dark but thank God for the street lighting.
Unfortunately I haven't played for couple of years cause my friend got married and moved away but would like a partner to play with but have no one. Mum used to do it with me when there was nobody around of my friends. So she kinda keep me company. I of course didn't trow fast, hard or high balls as I usually would, but tried to pass the ball towards her so she would return it back from one place cause she couldn't move faster cause of her hips.
So if anyone would like to play badminton I am here.
On the subject of horses I love them but haven't been able to be in contact with them. Would love to though.

That's nice you have memories of having ball sport practices with your Mom. I was horrible at ball sports - baseball, basketball, volleyball, tetherball etc. Neither of my parents did that type of thing with us. We kids, pretty much played together and I'd rather have my nose in a book.
My blister is healing up and I will get back to walking soon. Of course, I couldn't be happy with just one accident this week, I had to do another. As I was walking into work on Friday, one of my co-workers called out to me; distracted, I tripped over the transition bump from asphalt to the concrete loading dock. I almost caught myself for a couple steps, but then did a very ungraceful pirouette on to my hands and knees. So, now I have two slightly bruised knees to match my blisters. And I got teased several times today for my four point landing. I'm alright. No permanent damage it seems, except to my pride.
Nicolette - hope your back is ok. Try some stretching before your crunches, maybe that will help.
