Hi Annee, Sure wish I would have paid more attention in German class!!!!! Danke,anyhow....

fishforit- 08-07-2008

The German link above says something like this: "Michael Waechter is a succesful writer. When his beloved mother dies in a car crash the writer has to make a journey to the past. With a heavy heart he travels to the funeral where he meets his aunt Jane and his hated father again. Old familyconflicts come to the surface. Dennis Lee made a very honest and moving film, without being too sentimental. Apart from the interesting story there is also a high quality cast in "Fireflies in the garden", with Julia Roberts, Willem Dafoe, Ryan Reynolds und Carrie-Anne Moss. A moving film that tells, with big emotions and a lot of courage, the story of a torn apart family. Worth watching. " *the German writer wrote sister Jane, but she is the aunt. And I know, because I just returned from the cinema! The film is good! Interesting psychological drama, the storyline builds up with many clues but you only understand what happened in the end. Ioan's character has a surprising role in the story and I really can not tell which, without spoiling the story. (Sorry  .) His screentime is longer than in Black Hawk Down, comparable to This Girls Life. We see him in three scenes, one is the scene outside the uni-building of which pictures were available. (I did not see the extra hand tucking in his label.) I could not supress a smile when his scene was on. No bad remarks on his performance, he acted very well. And so did Ryan Reynolds! Very natural with kids.

Many thanks, Fishie! (It's wonderful to see you! ) :hug Seems like Fireflies, like the TV Set is getting nearer to the Brits......

Gaffer'sGirl- 08-07-2008

Thanks for the mini-review. I hope this makes it out my way. I'd rather see it in the theater than to have to wait for a DVD.

MIS Sent Me These. :) It seem like the trailer is not enjoyed that much. :( http://www.cinematical.com/2008/08/09/a-depressing-star-studded-trailer-for-fireflies-in-the-garden/ http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/08/09/worth-watching-aug-8-international-fireflies-in-the-garden-trailer/

Actually, the first blogger seems to like the trailer, wondering if it properly represents the film itself (what trailer does, I ask?). The second seems the opposite, suggesting the trailer doesn't do a good film justice. Ah, but variety is the spice of life, as someone once said!

Thanks Annee, for the update. Now I know the release date of the film in Belgium is 10/9/2008. I keep you posted. :happy

Seems like Fireflies, like the TV Set is getting nearer to the Brits...... I hope that it gets a British release - or does it mean that yet again, we shall have to wait for it to become available on DVD - Probably from France? :no no

StevieT- 08-10-2008

I know, Red; I'm grateful to get my hands on Ioan's works in any form to complete my collection, but it would be nice to be able to read the cover notes

I'm grateful to get my hands on Ioan's works in any form to complete my collection, but it would be nice to be able to read the cover notes> Too true Stevie, especially the bit about the cover notes. I obtained my copy of "Happy Now" from Spain

Thanx,Annee, for the synopsis above. Spoilers bother some people, but they never have me,at all.

Gaffer'sGirl- 08-14-2008

I found it interesting, too. Nice to hear that Ioan is in more than one scene.
