Oh no!!!!!!!!!! Don't tell me my pretty review of FF got LOST somehow!!!!!!!!! NONONONO!
So sorry, Everybody! Will try to re-post what I wrote later-----something got goofed up. DRATS!!!
Alrighty! if at first I don't succeed............... :shake pc: xxxxxxxxxxxxx Dear Ioan, I was wrong. I'm sorry, and it won't happen again...xxxxxxxxxx In light of the opening of FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER on June 15th, I spent some time this past weekend buying and watching the film for the first time. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised!xxxxxxxxxxxxxI went into this movie with the idea that I would NOT like it very much because it was simply "kids' fare", and would be so comic-bookish that it just wouldn't be my style,...xxxxxxxx...well,Ioan, I have to admit that, what on the outset, appeared to be a smarmy ten-year-old's fantasy, turned out to be an enjoyable 106 minutes of fun!xxxxxxxxxxxxNOW, I'm actually looking forward to seeing the new FF:ROSSwith enthusiasm. Here's why . . .xxxxxxxxxxxxSince this HAS to be an expository film,(because those of us who don't know the story behind the characters' unfortunate transformations somehow fell outside the loop!), we must be given lots of info to set us up for coming events!!! I was glad to see how, by film's end, clear definition of each character's personality and individual quirks, etc. was fulfilled.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>Let's see, there's MR. FANTASTIC--the genius, nerd/dork, who has no clue whatsoever how crazy he's driving SUSAN--the girl siren/woman emerging power house, who feels compelled to (s)mother her brother, Johnny--the fun-loving/thrill-seeking "hotshot", who, with his co-horts try to make BEN THE THING--sweet, but stonecold ugly, feel less like a big pile of rocks!!xxxxxxxxxxAfter I got used to hearing you speak without your beautiful accent, Ioan, I began to take in the special FX and wondered "how did they DO that"?? with scenes like the Brooklyn Bridge wreck,or, how Mr. F. wraps himself around Thing like a wily serpent.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxI got a kick out of the slick creative camera angles, and all the attempts to NOT make the story feel 'comic bookish'. Very cleverly done throughout. The characters blended in with the everyday feel of their surroundings, unlike the "Dick Tracy" or "Batman" characters do from bygone days.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxBy the end of my odyssey with you, Ioan, I realized that I had had FUN watching you, and the others, show-off your "skills" and get ready to save the world!!!xxxxxxxxxxxxxMy version also has an excellent "Special Features" section on it that I really found entertaining. I especially liked the full-length commentary by Ioan, Michael and Jessica as they went through the movie scene-by-scene, making personal remarks, quips and anecdotal references to behind-the-scenes happenings!!!!!! (Ioan, don't ever lose that wicked little laugh you do, okay?)xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThere were also some very cool clips of how the Brooklyn Bridge scene was made, and I so liked how you, Ioan, Jessica and Michael gave little personal-touch comments to each scene. (i.e.--- Ioan tells how his parents were present for the shooting of one scene, or when he says that the picture on the chest of drawers where Susan finds the "Memories" picture album is actually a photo of himself, his grandmother and Alun and Siwan!!! I LOVED it!!!!!!)xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxSoooooo, Ioan, as you see..., my tune has changed, and I promise I'll never look at another superhero the same way again. BRING IT ON, Mr. Fantastic!
Shipmate, you summed up my feelings about FF.
I saw FF when it was released in theatres in 2005 and I feared that it was going to be too 'childish' and 'comic-bookish' before I saw it, but then I really enjoyed the movie.
I liked it when you said "The characters blended in with the everyday feel of their surroundings, unlike the "Dick Tracy" or "Batman" characters do from bygone days." Good point!
