As to the scientist using a loudspeaker to announce an earthquake, I suppose most, including the police would take him to be a nut job. Sad, isn't it, since he tried to do it through proper channels first. I suppose authorities will listen more closely now.

The scientist who foretold that a major earthquake was about to strike actually drove around playing warnings over a loudspeaker about one month ago, but I don't know how many people took him seriously, considered that we are not used to official warnings being spread that way.
Another irony in this situation is that there were schools in and around L'Aquila that were to stay closed last Monday because the seismic resistance of their structure had to be assessed. In fact, that area had been shaken by minor earthquakes since December.
