Dogged Perseverence
Interesting little bit of behind-the-scenes info from 102 damamtions, from an article in this week's Guardian Guide, about training animals for film sets:
"GO FETCH
Film: 102 Dalmations
Featured Creature: dalmations
Tricks of the Trade: in a scene where a puppy has to retrieve a video cassette, take it over to the machine, put it in the slot and press play, a special cassette was used with holes drilled the exact size of the dog's teeth. Powerful magnets were used to draw the tape in, while a laser pointer led the dog to the correct height. This four-second scene took three months."
That's interesting! I'm always curious of how they manage to have animals in movies do what they do on screen. I've never been able to train any of the animal that I owned do something special... that's why I say I'm owned by animals rather than owning them... though I've always had cats and they're not the easiest species to train...
Somthing interesting.
In AG in the kitchen scene were there are lots of animals there's a parrot on a stand and on the commentary Ioan starts giggling. "I've worked with that parrot before, on 102 Dalmatians."
Cute to hear HHh. Does Ioan make comment on scaring the dogs in that coffin scene like he did in interviews?
