Did you notice....?
Being a serial HH watcher I often notice things that maybe the "average viewer" doesn't
I would be curious to know if other people are in the same boat <----
For example there is a scene in "The Wrong War" towards the end where there is some unexpected cannon fire when the boys are standing on the beach. There is a quick shot where you see Major E. in the back of the group with his lips pursed trying to control his horse who was spooked by the noise.
In "The Mutiny" Capt Sawyer is reading The Articles of War on the ship. In one shot of Horatio there is this older gentleman standing in back of him who I think is supposed to be a midshipman. He has the weirdest expression on his face, he is pointing his nose into the air LOL. He is clutching that thing they use to measure distance on the map. Its a really big one though. There is another scene where you see him walking around the ship again holding it. I started to think his direction was to wander about the ship holding that thing.
These are obscure things and who knows if anyone else will have any idea what I am talking about !LOL
Also there was that thread from IO where folks had noticed some bloopers like putting the eyeglass up to one eye and taking it down from the other. I had a great time looking for some of those! Does anyone remember what some of them were?
OK! :chat

You noticed that too?! LOL! I was thinking the same thing! I also noticed they always have the same background captured frenchman. It's really weird.

Usually it's a budget thing. No money for re-shooting something that is essentially background, so they leave the shot in or re-use an actor hoping no one will notice and most don't. Of course, most viewers aren't as obsessive-compulsive about watching them over and over like we are. I'm willing to bet it bugged the heck out of the editor who probably wanted to throttle the continuity person. Hm I missed the background thing! Oh well somthing to look for the next time around!
I remember one of the bloopers was in "The Fire Ships" I think. When Horatio sees the ships burning he puts the eyeglass to one eye and takes it down from the other.
I like the terminology "obsessive compulsive" when it comes to watching HH. I think it fits.

I admit I missed the background thing, too.
As for the bloopers, IOL's usHHfan has collected some bloopers on her site.

Thanks for the link Frances. I had noticed the anticipation and Sawyer death position switch. Both pictures of breezy pants were new ones on me. :shock Gaffer's Girl

Great link! Its so fun to be able to pick those out!
I've always been like that. I watch certain movies so much that I notice all these little things.
When Braveheart came out I watched it so much I started to see a ton. Like there is this one battle scene where the fighting has stopped but you still see two people in the background "stage fighting" Doing these slow, coreagraphed moves with their swords. LOL
I have to say its cool to have discovered on the
www. that there are others that are like me in terms of devotion to certain actors and movies!!! :applaud:

I think I saw one in the Retribution, due to camera angle. Bush turns his face towards camera and in the next shot we see his back again and turns his head again. And there is a harsh cutting in the Examination of Lieutenant. Something that might be intentional, if used all the way in the movie but being a solemn case it's "mistake".
But those are so small things, decicions made in the dark of the cutting room when some shots might have been impossible to use.
Still some weird people notice them

I found out what that object was that the odd looking midshipman was carrying.
Its an instrument to tell time by looking through it towards the sun.
(compliments of "Master and Commander" with Russell Crowe)

If I'm not mistaken it's called a 'sextant'?

I wonder which naval adventure was more "true to life" or maybe they both are. Master and Commander seemed so much darker and chaotic. The men were always all over the place and there seemed to be no comradery (sp) between them. Of course their is not time in a 2 hour film to develop many characters. I found myself missing Styles and Matthews! And of course Bush and Archie.
Yet Russel Crowe in 1800s naval garb was enough to make the film a hit for me. :sun
