Forgive me for this moment of anneethepoisonsnake but... If it's the happiness of being married, BLESSED BE (ANNEES) THE SINGLE! One Should Always Be In Love. That's the Reason Why One Should Never Get Married. AnneeTheSnake Mode Off - Let's hope My Love will always bring me happiness. A couple of things to say...... 1 this newspaper is known for portaying things in a wrong way. 2 every couple has a bad day now and again and obviously it´s harder on them having to spend months apart from each other 3 even if their marriage fails (hope not) that doesn´t mean that being married to someone it´s the worse thing that could happen to you. I speak for myself here and I´m not trying to be the voice of others. 4 I have pics of them that very same day huging and kissing 5 even if I don´t share the point of view.......I enjoyed watching pics of Hugh. now I don´t mean to start a debate here, so I have to say Thanks anyway to annee for the pics and for giving her very respectable point of view. :kiss :hug

I think it's easy to forget how a photo captures one split second of an expression and doesn't portray anything either side in the situation. Everyone has off days - especially in a long-term relationship. My own marriage ended badly, but I would not exchange the fifteen good years (and my kids) to avoid the two bad years. What does not break us makes us stronger. :thumbs up Hugh's lovely, it seems to me, and they're both entitled to have a grumpy day without paps assuming divorce is on the cards.

Thanks anyway to annee for the pics and for giving her very respectable point of view. :kiss :hug Sil, just to point this out: "One should always be in love. That's why one should never get married" is not mine, of course. I am not that smart, of course. It's from Oscar Wilde. (Earnest? Windermere?) I do not know whether he really thought it or he wanted to "bite" with this sentence. Maybe both. But somehow, sorry if I offend someone, I give kudos to this sentence.

StevieT- 03-09-2008

I think Oscar found real love outside his marriage, for various reasons. But his wit was razor sharp. Annee, you do not offend - it is an interesting subject! The question of whether one can remain in love with someone for many years, as opposed to loving them comfortably and deeply, is interesting too. My opinion is that it would be far too exhausting to remain inthat exhilarating state for one's entire marriage.....

Gaffer'sGirl- 03-10-2008

I agree, Stevie. I think with any type of love, the nature of it changes over time as events and time change us. Hopefully, in most cases for the better.

Personally, I think you can love someone for many many years, but I doubt it is possible to be in love with someone for many years. It would be exhausting (perhaps even scary) to remain in that exhilarating state for one's entire marriage (unless that marriage lasts very little ).

I know you meant no offense honey!!!! I was just trying to present another point off view about this subject!! I totally aprecciate your opinion and I think this is a good sentence too and, like you say, I think Oscar was being true and ironic at the same time!

Frances- 03-11-2008

I think Oscar was being true and ironic at the same time! Ah, Oscar Wilde was very witty - I guess that's why his plays are great -, but you have to appreciate his taste for paradox and his irony. I admit that when I read the quote in Annee's post, I was reminded of another quote that kind of contradicts it: "A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her." (“The Picture of Dorian Gray”, Oscar Wilde)

"A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her." (“The Picture of Dorian Gray”, Oscar Wilde) Ouch! Also this one, IMO, deserves kudos. Maybe it's me, the WildeQueen?

Silvia- 03-14-2008

The Wilde Queen???? I like it!!!!!!! That´s a good quote too Fran

Dear old Oscar wrote a lot about marriage and was very insightful. I have never quite been able to decide whether this was because of, or in spite of, the sham his own marriage was. Here's a couple more of his thought's on the subject of marriage and women in general.... "Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same." "Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship." "How can a woman be expected to be happy with a man who insists on treating her as if she were a perfectly normal human being." "I see when men love women. They give them but a little of their lives. But women when they love give everything." I, for one, am in total agreement with this last one (bitter old twisted hag that I am!!!)
