bomb in Times Square New York
I just read the news on my computer that a cyclist threw a bomb in the subway station of Times Square New York.
What a violent world we live in.
When here in Belgium we hear about New York, we directly think of 11 September 2001 and then we get a sad feeling.
I've just read this in the news. The bomb hit a military recruitment centre in NYC Times Square, though, not a subway station. Things such as this should not happen, but the bomb was small and exploded at 3:45 am when the centre was empty, so there were just minor damages to the structure and no injuries.

That's a relief, Frances. Thanks for the update. It just goes to show, no matter how hard they try, the security forces can never stop all terrorist activities, because these people are willing to die for their causes. And it comes to matter of whether we, as citizens, are willing to live in a stranglehold of security.
Yes I heard about this this morning as well. Awful times, but these are crazy crazy people. And they will use any and all means to hurt and kill innocent people. They just have no respect for life. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel about it.
Quite sad that there are people in the world who will do things like that. And I'm quite grateful for people like Stevie's son who will step up and try to protect us.
Horrible! Thanks for the alert.

Hey Gaff - I agree with you. But not just Stevie's son but anybody who steps up to protect us and our freedom. Hats off to all!
I for one am grateful to all those that are protecting their countries and others. However it has made me so angry that in the UK the RAF have asked their staff not to wear their uniforms in public in the area around Peterbough area, due to bad feelings and resentment from those opposed to issues happening across the world, they are wanting to protect their staff against any harm.
Good luck to you all. xxx
Yes, the Army don't wear their uniforms, either, unless on official business. It's sad that our Armed forces are not allowed to be seen to be proud of themselves (they still are, though!)
I'm sorry to hear there are Armed forces who are not allowed to wear their uniforms unless on official business. It is really sad.
I know I feel protected and safe when I see the Army in their uniforms patrolling Paris streets along with the police.
Marthe, the armed forces are totally voluntary here, too.(National Service stopped in the sixties, I believe) Scott has chosen to make it his career (something he's wanted since the age of eleven and enlisted as soon as he could (16yrs).
Thank you for your kind words about the pics. He is turning into quite a mature young man, from the always-in-trouble rebel he once was
Older people says that beeing in the army was good for the education of young people. There they learned discipline and respect.
There are some older people in my country who also say that National Service was good for young people because it taught them discipline and respect.
BTW, the armed forces are voluntary over here as well.
