Mondaymorning around 4 o'clock it started to snow in Belgium. And that after two weeks of vacation. So yesterday morning every body had to work again and there was also school again. So there was again a lot of traffic and with that bad weather, there were a lot of problems. Then it stopped snowing, but it started freezing. And this night it was freezing hard. It is 15 years ago that is was so cold. Last night it was - 13 ° Celcius and at 10 o'clock it was still -7 ° Celcius. For Belgium that is very cold.
And this morning my car did not started. I called my work and they came to charge the battery of the car. So it was after 10 that I was at work. And at work it is very quiet. It is a construction company where I work, and because of the weather, the construction building does not work.

Today is the last day of Christmas/New Year's holiday in Italy (schools are opening tomorrow after a 2-week-long break) and it is snowing right now in Italy and it sounds like it will go on till tomorrow night, according to weather forecasts.

Sounds like the weather we had a few weeks ago swept over to your direction. Too bad it had to come right after your vacation. Of course for us, it came right before Christmas which was not so good for retail stores. There is hope - we are now warmer - around 45 degrees F which is about 12 degrees above freezing. Ah nice! I only have to wear a winter jacket - no long johns.

Yes Gaff, I also think the weather from America has swept over to Europe. Last night it was -20 in the Ardennen (high Belgium). According to the meterological office, the past 24 hours were the coldest day from the century. So freezing greatings from Belgium. :cold: :cold: :cold:

We had -7 Centigrade the night before last, but no beautiful snow ;angry: It's just sleety, dark and horrible and the flu season is particularly virulent this year, so we are overflowing with sick kids at work. Both coming to work and going home in the dark, I find very depressing.
Okay, January moan over!!!!! Looking forward to Spring now the year has turned, not to mention Summer....I suppose there's a vague possibility we Brits may see some sun this year? (Apparently last August was officially the greyest on record  )
Frances- 01-07-2009
We have 0° C right now and it is snowing, but we had about -5° C in the first 4 or 5 days of 2009. This is one of the coldest and most snow-filled winters I can remember.
I think I could yell at someone mentioning the Greenhouse effect and global warming.

We've had more snow than usual, but right now we are much warmer. We should be in the mid-40's F later today, but we are having a lot of rain. Many parts of Washington are flooding because the rain is melting a heavy layer of snow. Fortunately, where I am at there isn't flooding. We do have a lot of standing water that's not sinking into the groung quickly. Hope you all warm up soon. And then, there is California where I hear they are  and basking in warmth. No wonder Ioan likes it there.
StevieT- 01-07-2009
With my luck, California will be having the coldest September on record, when I get there!(hey, I've just noticed that the centre Ioan in my siggie looks as if Horatio is stripping off in a British Summer! :happy)
Gaffer'sGirl- 01-08-2009
Usually, September is the surest bet for the hottest month in California - Fire and Earthquake season starts then.

Hey,that's a cheery thought! From my seat by the window, here in the library, the sky is cloudless--but it's quite chilly outside (30's F.). Weather changes so fast in these parts--it could be cloudy and snowing by tonight, for all anybody knows! :cold: Brrrrrrrrr!
Gaffer'sGirl- 01-08-2009
Our weather changes rapidly, too. We had a big blow today with gusts that were hard to walk in. Poor Gaffer is so distressed by the noises from the wind.
