Here. we had snow last Thursday night---but it was all melted away by Friday afternoon. Then,Monday, we had freezing rain----but the temperatures rose and NOW we have drizzle and FOG today......................it can/does change so quickly around my part of the country.
GNAT0629- 12-18-2008
Well we've already had a couple really nice snow storms. We had one last week and we got one a couple days ago. I'm sorry, we had 2 last week (last Tuesday and last Friday night). Then it got unbearably cold. Then we got ice/sleet Sunday night late and single digit high on Monday. Tuesday afternoon we got more snow followed by really cold temps again. And now we're awaiting the apocolyptic snow storm du jour later this evening. My understanding is we're getting up to about a foot by tomorrow morning. So I'll be hunkered inside my house all day tomorrow. ;angry: Anyway............so much for fall in Chicago this year. We pretty much went straight into winter.
Shipmate- 12-19-2008
Oooooooooo! That sounds pretty bad. Stay warm and safe, okay,Sugarbeans? I'll be thinking 'bout cha............ :cold: :cold: :cold:
Gaffer'sGirl- 12-19-2008
Chicago snow is definitely worse than ours, though we're colder than normal and due for some wind and snow this weekend. Keep safe, Gnat.
GNAT0629- 12-24-2008
Oh Gaff - I thought you guys up in the Northwest were getting hit pretty hard???
Yeah we got it bad again over the weekend. Friday morning we got about a foot by me. Then the temps dropped to below freezing and then we got snow again all day yesterday. Literally all day yesterday and into this morning - snow snow snow. So we've had about a foot and a half of snow within one week's time. It's not been a very fun winter here in the far northern suburbs of Chicago. :weeping :cold:

Hey girls, we saw in the news that the Nord of America en Chicago are hit by very heavy snow ! Gaff and Gnat, I hope everything is all right over there. Keep safe and warm. And let us know how the situation is.
They also said in the news that it has been 15 years ago that there were such heavy snow storms in Washington and Oregon. So Gaff, let me know if that is right ?
Gaffer'sGirl- 12-26-2008
Yes, it has been 15 years since Western Washington was hit with that kind of snow. I was here visiting for Christmas that year and got stuck. That time we got several feet in a couple of days. Where I am, it's been several snows spread out over two weeks. We are in the the great melt-off now.
GNAT0629- 12-26-2008
Yes Gaff, here too. We're going to be getting a great warm up over the next couple of days. Which of course now means we're under a flash flood watch. So once again like last year, if it's not one extreme, it's another. So I guess we bide our times until the next snow storm, ice storm or deep freeze shows its ugly face. Good luck to you Gaff - seems we're in this one together huh?
Gaffer'sGirl- 12-26-2008
Yes, I think so, Gnat. Although I suppose you have more snow on the ground than I do here. Further East and in the mountains, they have about a foot and a half to two feet. We're just icy on the roads with crunchy snow still on the ground. I much prefer fresh powder. When I came out of seein Benjamin Button tonight I had a harder time navigating my footing in the parking lot than driving home.
Gaffer'sGirl- 12-28-2008
We have sunshine and the big meltdown. No more snow, although there is still ice on the driveway. No need for gloves, a hat or long underwear today! Yeah!
StevieT- 12-28-2008
No white Christmas for us Brits (why am I not surprised?) It's pretty cold, but damp and miserable at the moment. Still, warm and happy indoors with mucho choco and the Wii for a really good laugh!
Yavannie- 12-28-2008
No white Christmas for us Finns, either. Or rather, not us Finns in the Southern parts of Finland anyway. Only a tiny bit of frost.
Oh well, I'll hope for a white few days in January or February. After that, I wouldn't mind if it didn't snow anymore.
GNAT0629- 12-28-2008
Yes we had the great meltdown over the weekend. The great meltdown coupled with rain storms all day Saturday has made for some great flooding in the area. But then of course we went back down to freezing temperatures so we've got a bunch of ice all over. But most of the snow is gone now.
Frances- 12-28-2008
It snowed all day here today (or better, yesterday, since it's already 1 am for me) and more snow is supposed to fall over the next couple of days, so we didn't have a white Christmas. as the snow that fell a month ago had already melted by 25 December, but it looks like we're going to have a white New Year's Day.
Gaffer'sGirl- 12-28-2008
We're into a warmer streak for the daytime (yah!)with some rain (boo!) and then, Icing over at night (yuck!). I slipped and slided my way out of the movies tonight and it was only 7:30pm. I went and saw THe Day the Earth Stood Still. Keanu Reeves, John Hamm and Kyle Chandler (Mmmmm!) Movie - just OK.
