Avatars
I was wondering if someone may be able to help me. Every time I get a new avatar or a new picture for an avatar, the size is always too big and by the time I have it the allowed 5kb it's either way too small or bad quality. Is there a proper way to make an avatar image? I look at some of the fantastic ones on here and wonder how it is that their's fit the size limit but my plain old normal pictures don't? Oh and also, is anyone able to please make me a wallpaper because I really don't have the right editing software. If you are able to help, I'll send you the pictures. Thanks :-)

Well, I suppose that some did not upload their avatar to this site but provided used the "Link to off-site Avatar" option in their profile, so their avatar is actually streaming from another site. Personally, I crop images to show just what I wish to show in my avatar and then resize them to around 140 x 120 pixels and lower their quality to around 80%. This way, my avatars usually are within the allowed 6 Kb size limit.

Kaitlyn, do you have any kind of ppicture editing on your pc? If so, then there should be an option to resize uner the Adjust menu. I've made the avatars in the Imageshack Gallery all about 120x120 pixels. Hope this helps. If it doesn't, you could email me a pic and I'll resize it for you. Stevie

Kaitlyn, if you don't have an image editing programme on your pc but want to try one, you can download GIMP from www.gimp.org. Perhaps it is not a high-end product, but it's free. Otherwise, if you need help, just ask.

I used to use Macromedia Fireworks but my trial ran out and it costs a fortune so, you know. I have an image programme that came with my camera that allows you to adjust size and colour and quality but I am not able to lower the quality to even 80% because it goes mental, even when I do crop it to the only thing I want. And when I edit the image the size of the file climbs. I have also tried to host the file then paste the url to this site but that doesn't work for me either. Thanks for your help though, you two, and thanks for the link to Gimp Frances.
