Audiobooks
I got some days ago all Hornblower-books as Audio-books...it`s my first experiance with Audio-books, and i was at first a bit sceptical, cause i like reading a lot. But i have to say, now i found out that it`s also fun when somebody else reads for me  I was almost 3 days now continously hanging in my chair, eyes closed, headphones on and "read"  Think when i come home from work i will continue :Horatio wink:

Yes,and in addition to listening to Ioan's lovely and talented voice impressions, the stories are really fascinating too, aren't they?

I'd love to get ahold of the Ioan read version of the books. I might finish the series that way. It would be nice if they put them in a CD collection.

I like reading a lot, too, but though I love holding books in my hands to read, it is good to hear stories read out to me, especially if the person reading can "play" them as an actor might do.
I'd love to listen to Ioan reading the HH books, but I'll have to wait till they make it to CDs, as my audio cassette player broke years ago and I had never had it fixed.

I still have a player, just no tapes.

Unfortunately, i don`t have The Ioan-tapes. It`s some stuff from longer ago read by a Jeffry....or so, i don`t remember now. But the stories are fascinating, no matter, who reads them. Of course, i would be freaking out if i could get the ones read by Ioan... :happydance:

I believe those are the ones we have at our library. I understand that they do come up occasionally on the internet, so keep your eyes open.

I have been "reading" so far 2 books now. It is SOOOO FUN!!!! I never believed that audio-books could be that good. I had "Beat to Quarters" and "Hornblower and the Atropos" which is a really grabbing one. Now i am listening "Ship of the line", and it`s also great. I hope , Santa Clause remembers my request to bring me some books...really books ;-)) Got to have... :applaud:

I have recently discovered the joy of audio books for my over an hour round trip drive to the barn. Unlike trying to talk on a cell, I find I can compartmentalize my brain and not be distracted from driving.
Not doing Hornblower, although I have one of Ioan's tape sets.
Right now doing George RR Martin's Game of Thrones series in preparation for the fact that HBO is doing a pilot for a TV series with Sean Bean as Eddard Stark and a great ensemble cast. I read those books years ago, but it's nice to do it again in another media. The narrator is great, although I don't always like his female voices.
Makes the drive a lot more enjoyable for sure.

I tried audio books for the first time when I drove down to L.A. Much better than many long hours of bad radio or CD's I've heard over and over. My sister lent me four crime sort of stories and I enjoyed them. Think I might try some others. It does occupy the time and make me feel like I'm getting something done. I hope to find some books I've wanted to read and never found the time.

I have the Ioan-read 'Hornblower and the Hotspur', but sadly no longer have anything to listen to it on (searching the jukshops for a cassette player...)
We use alot of Audio Book CDs with the kids at work. Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are very popular.

I transferred some of the book-files to my phones memorycard. Had to empty it completly from everything else before, but i don`t want to take my holy Mini-laptop with me to germany. I have so bad experiences with stuff like this, cause i am sometimes a bit clumsy, and then it falls or i brake it otherwise or anything...just stupid happenings  Anyway, works good with the phone also, and i can fall to sleep with headphones without anybody steels my "precious laptop" :wink Lots of time on the ship to sit there, stare at the sea and listen to Hornblower-stories...think i will enjoy it. In a striped shirt, of course! :Horatio wink:

I know it's great to own things, especially Hornblower. But libraries lend audio books. Mine is now online, so it's great to reserve things and go there to pick them up when they notify you. One way retired people like me can save loads o bucks.
In return, I've been donating books to the library. One way to give back to the community.
