And so it snows again
Oh man. What can I even say anymore? The midwest has gotten socked with yet another winter storm from hell! It started yesterday morning and didn't end until this morning. We've got about a foot of snow up by my area. Lots of people didn't even bother coming into work today. Can't blame them. It was just a mess. I WANT SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :weeping And still I ask where's the global warming???!!!! Cuz it sure as hell ain't here in Chicago!

Frances- 02-01-2008

Considered that temperature is 0° C / 32° F over here now, I wonder where global warming is, too.

Gaffer'sGirl- 02-01-2008

Sorry to hear about your snow, Gnat. We had a last week, but only a few inches and are a bit too warm for it today. Though the mountain passes a few hours to the East of us are having avalanches and deep suffication snow (Don't even want to know about that). Hope your weather gets better soon. I look forward to Spring also.

And you'd want global warming in Chicago? My country is effected by global warming as are a lot of poorer countries who barely even contribute to it, trust me, you're lucky to have snow and stuff. I barely see light showery rain let alone something actually worthwhile.

But you asked where is Global warming and let me say that I think that these severe temperatures whether there be hot or cold are a part of the nature responds to humans and their part in whole Global warming issue with all the pollution and exploitation of forests etc. Don't you agree? I know it is cold so here is a bit of :sun to warm you up :hug

Frances- 02-03-2008

It's drizzling here now... I almost wish it was snowing, but just because I don't have to get out today and I could watch the snow falling from my windows...

GNAT0629- 02-04-2008

Well we got more snow last night. That was a nice surprise. That wasn't predicted, it was supposed to be rain. Today it's rainy and foggy and here's a shocking revelation: we're in for another winter storm advisory for tomorrow. Meaning we're supposed to get more snow AGAIN tomorrow. Hey Gaff - I can't remember what part of the West you're in, but I heard all about the FEET of snow Washington state and Oregon are getting. Yikes! I'm just so done with this! :sad And thanks for the sunshine Selma!

Gaffer'sGirl- 02-04-2008

That snow is a couple of hours to the East of me. We're pretty much just wet here. But major avalanche time on the main East-West thoroughfair across the state. Thanks for asking, but it's not really affecting me. Hope you don't get hit too hard, Gnat. Frances - like you a little snow is nice on days I don't have to go out. I do get tired of just cold rain, but it is better to drive in.

Well for my grandma's and aunts' sakes, I hope it's not so bad. The snow is supposed to start tonight. We're expected to get anywhere between 3-6 inches tonight and another 4-7 tomorrow. Up by me where we're already under mountains of snow and we're once again supposed to be hardest hit, this is not welcome news. But worse for my grandma, my aunts and my aunt's daughters who are flying out tomorrow night to Florida to go to Disneyworld. The girls don't even know yet. They want to try to keep it a secret until they land and get to the hotel, but it might not make it passed getting to the airport. Hopefully the snow isn't so bad that their flight is cancelled. Gaff - I'm glad you're safe from all that. It looked horrid!

WarriorSelma- 02-05-2008

Gaffer's Girl I am glad that everything is all right and that it didn't affected you too much. Gnato I really hope that it will be all right and that your grandma, aunts and aunts daughters will arrive safely to Florida and so that they can have fun at Disneyworld.

GNAT0629- 02-06-2008

The update is that the snowstorm of the century we were supposed to have last night, didn't arrive until today. So it's snowing like a banshee right now and it's not expected to stop anytime soon. They're saying between 8-14 inches. I know O'Hare Airport has already cancelled at least 500 flights, but that was as of this morning. My aunt said she's keeping a watch on theirs and last I heard from her she said everything was still a go. Who knows what happens later though. The city itself (which is where I work) is just now getting hit and it's not even as bad. Up by me it's like a blizzard. Would be nice if my office sent us home early, but since they don't give a sh*t what happens to their employees in conditions like these, that's not likely. I woke up with yet another sinus infection so if I wake up to this crap and feeling LIKE crap, I'm calling in. I don't care.

Frances- 02-06-2008

I hope your grandma, your aunt and your cousins will be able to leave to Florida in spite of the snowstorm of the century that hit Chicago and enjoy Disney World and some Florida sun, Gnat. If you wake up feeling like crap because of your sinus infection, it is probably better, indeed, to call in sick and stay home instead of weathering the snowstorm and go to work.

painajainen- 02-06-2008

Snowstorm of the century! I believe, all the snow we should be having here, have lost their way and come over there instead... (for it's 0 degrees celcius here, when normally it should be -15!)

Frances- 02-06-2008

So, Painajanen, you should tell us what strategies you adopt in Finland to cope with snow and cold, because I think life don't stop in your country when there is much snow or it is very cold.

Gaffer'sGirl- 02-06-2008

I'd be interested in hearing. I know in my area people start to complain if it just looks like snow. Gnat, I hope everyone made it out safely and they get there trip to DisneyWorld. I'm hoping Shipmate is Ok. I believe she lives near to one of the areas hit by Tornadoes yesterday. I would imagine power is out some places.
