It feels a bit Spring-like here today. Bright sunshine and sharp, fresh winds. Exhilarating! I'm looking at my crocuses and thinking I need to attack the garden!
Gaffer'sGirl- 02-26-2008
We have a few daffodils starting to peak out. I'm hoping for flowers in the next week or so. It could be just in time for St. David's day in honor of the Welshman.
Frances- 02-26-2008
It feels a bit like Spring here, too. We've been having a series of sunny and relatively lukewarm days for the couple of weeks or so.

Ahhh, saw my first daffodils a couple of days ago as well.....love it! GG,forgive me, what is St. David's Day? I haven't heard of it, I'm sorry.

Thanks for the thoughts of Spring kids! I think it might work. We're supposed to get that warm jetstream air Gaff - this weekend it's supposed to be in the 40's I believe. Oh only our mouths to God's ears!!!
As for flowers - well, so far, nuttin.
Gaffer'sGirl- 02-27-2008
Ship - St. David or Dewi Sant is the Patron Saint of Wales and is celebrated on March 1st. Daffodils are the National Flower of Wales, so they along with Leeks are often worn on St. David's Day. Ioan also did the narration and was on camera for a documentary about Dewi Sant.
Gnat - glad to hear the jetstream is heading in your direction. We are no longer really warm :sun (sunshine coming your way), but not cold either :???: .

Not only was there the earthquake last night, but the gusts of wind got so strong that the hospital's main doors were almost torn off their hinges, When I got to work, everyone was having to traipse through A&E,causing no end of havoc! they were fixed by the end of the day, i'm glad to say.
You're right, Matie - this climate thing is totally unsettling! Here in Britain, we're supposed to be all temperate and level-headed. All this craziness is driving everyone nuts (we can't cope when we're not in control, see?)
And talking about craziness - remember my daughter's friend who was murdered last year? The fifteen year old girl who killed her is on trial at the moment - she has pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter as she 'did not intend to kill' Samantha. This despite the post mortem showing Sam suffered thirty different stab wounds all over her body. See what I mean about crazy????????
Frances- 02-27-2008
Thirty different stab wounds and that girl can claim that she did not intend to kill Samantha?
I've never experienced gusts of wind so strong as to almost tear doors off hinges and I hope I never will. I'm glad to hear that the doors at your hospital got fixed quickly.
Gaffer'sGirl- 02-27-2008
An earthquake and high winds - yikes! Scary. We get pretty fierce winds here near the water, but no doors blowing off the hinges.
It's amazing what kind of defenses lawyers or solicitors will put on for their client. Your daughter must be very upset by that insanity. I know I would be.
StevieT- 02-28-2008
Me too, GG. The trial is consuming Sam's friends and family at the moment. Her Dad (and I'm sure her Mum, who I don't know) is finding it very difficult to hear every detail of the horrendous way his daughter died.
Frances, the judge said much the same as you did at the start of the trial, so we hope he holds that thought. We suspect her plea will be that she was high on drugs, but to me, it's like drink-driving - if you take a substance that alters your perception and then commit a crime, you should still be held responsible.
GNAT0629- 02-28-2008
Oh Stevie that's horrible!!!!! I didn't know about this. Wow! What a whackjob! And this poor girl's parents, I can't even imagine sitting there listening to the details knowing that as a parent you could do nothing to protect your child. Oh God that's horrifying!
Gaffer'sGirl- 02-28-2008
I agree Stevie. If you are responsible for the substance you take whether it be alchohol or drugs (or even lack of sleep) that alters your perception; you should be held responsible for the actions you subsequently commit. Oh, the defense lawyer would not like me as a juror.

I also think that you should be held responsible for the actions you commit, even if you commit them after taking substances like alcohol or drugs that alter your perception (and you knew or it is common knowledge that they would alter your perceptions, if you took them).
Shipmate- 02-29-2008
Totally agree, ladies. All so horribly sad and loathesome at the same time. Nobody wins in any way, really. So very sad.

Thought I'd let you know that the girl who murdered Sam
has been convicted of murder and will be sentenced next month, but will most likely be 'detained at Her majesty's pleasure' with a minimum sentence of 14 years.
My daughter asked me to post this picture of Sam from yesterday's paper, so you could all see what a lovely young mum she was!
