Anyone in the recent tornado region in America? They looked pretty crazy...
I've also heard of the tornadoes that hit Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama and Mississippi in the US. I hope that if there are Yo-Zoners living in those states, they are all safe.
I live about 20 miles away from where some very nasty business went on the other night. We are fine here, but it was a wild night, and I didn't sleep! I feel so very sorry for the victims of the storms. It's going to be a good long while before things get back to normal for them. Please keep good thoughts going for them all, huh?
Glad to hear you are safe, Matey. I hope other Yo-zoners in that area are, too.
Me too. President Bush is in the area right now, looking things over a bit. Surely hope he can move things along for everybody in trouble.
Hope help comes quickly. There have sure been a lot of FEMA type disasters this past year or so.
Hello friends! I'm back. Sorry it's been awhile. We did get socked with 14 inches of snow Wednesday night, up in my area anyway. Down in the city proper they didn't get more than 3 inches. My grandma et all made it out, I think their flight was about 45-50 delayed but they flew out nonetheless. In fact my one aunt told me she was interviewed by a local news crew regarding their flight actually leaving. There had been in all about 1000 flights cancelled that day. So when I got home that night, I had about 2 feet of snow on the front of my car that I had to clean off. My snow brush couldn't stand up to the wet, heavy snow that was piled on so I literally had to dig my car out. I thought for a moment I had frost bite on my hands. So instead of taking my usual route home from the train that night, which includes a very large hill at an intersection in which I inevitably catch the red light, I went a different way. Well this way was no better as I got stuck in the intersection trying to make a left turn. And since the human race is so generous and kind, people stayed in their cars and watched as I uselessly tried getting myself out of this jam. Nobody helped me. And one guy actually had the nerve to honk his horn at me. Mind you, I'm sick. So I finally back out and turn around and take the route that I had been trying to avoid in the first place, fortunately the light was not red. And truth be told, if it had turned red I would have continued on through the intersection anyway so that I didn't get stuck again. I figured if any cops were out, they wouldn't have stopped me for that anyway. And if so, well at least I'd have help pushing my a$$ out of the ditch after getting pulled over. So I make it home, no small feet. I almost got stuck again turning onto my street. Now let me just explain that since I live in a condo community, I have association fees I have to pay each month - $160/month. What is this for you ask? Well supposedly it's for nights like this: snow removal from our streets and driveways. Yeah. So I get to my house, my driveway is of course on an incline and there's about 2 feet of snow in my drive because the association hasn't even bothered to send any plows out. At all. On top of that, my stellar neighbor was kind enough to clean her car off - INTO MY DRIVEWAY. So that added about another foot of snow. I tried my usualy running start to get up the drive into my garage. No go. I get stuck. At the end of my driveway, I can't go anywhere. I can't go forward, I can't go backward. Yep. I'm done at this point. I've already decided, screw it, I'm not going into work tomorrow. So I call my parents, my stepdad in shining armor comes to shovel me out and gets my car into my garage. I'm in for the night. For the next day. And hopefully for the rest of my life. Then we come to find out that the state of Illinois, not counting on this much snow to hit the area this season, has now run out of salt. The entire state. Fantastic. Not that I care since the county I live in sucks at snow removal on our roads anyway. So yeah I'm fighting with myself the next morning whether I should call in or not. I'm already off the following day but I wasn't feeling well, I'd had a nightmare experience on the road the night before, I hadn't slept all night, it's freezing cold outside and as predicted, the roads suck. Nope, I'm calling sick. If they want to fire me, fine. I don't care. Maybe they should have let those of us who live in the worst affected areas leave early so we didn't have to deal with that kind of crap. Anyway, I stayed home and then spent the rest of the weekend at my grandma's watching their dog. It's been colder than pigsnout and today we've had once again below zero temps with an advisory. It's like literally 20 degrees below zero outside. And, wait for it...........yes that's right, you guessed it..........more snow tomorrow. We're in for another 3-4 inches. *sigh* I know we're being punished for having several years of mild winters, but God help me!!!!!
Ah well, at least my FOURTH illness of the season has subsided for now. I'm about to leave for home, but I hadn't been on since Wednesday so I wanted to drop in and give you an update and check on everybody and see if everyone's had a better weekend than I have.
By the way, I did see the tornados that ripped through the south. I do hope everybody's safe!!!
So Gnat, have all the spiders run in fear of the snow into your garage?
I've been in that kind of snow one winter. Thank goodness the town in Indiana I lived in was flat and I lived close to work. The temp was zero; my car got socked in; and each step I took walking, I sunk into the snow up to my hips. Does that sound a little bit like what you are going through? I hope it get better for you.
I would have slid straight through the red light too. Well, as long as there was no traffic coming.
I've been through a winter like this 4 years ago. Luckily, my home town is flat and I did not need to drive to work, but I can recall that it took my father one hour and a half to get home from work when it usually took him 20 minutes.
Boy, I sure don't miss the winters up North!!!!!! It really wouldn't bother me at all if I ever saw another snowflake in my life---hahahahaha! Seriously,Gnat, I know how awful all that can get, and it ain't a great time, is it?!! I can sympathize (I'm originally from Northwest Ohio.).
Ooh Matie - northwest Ohio huh? They get bad stuff too, they get all the lake affect snow. Thanks for the sympathy anyhow!
Gaff - I honestly don't think there's a single spider alive up here right now. It's too damn cold! I'm actually wearing long underwear under my work clothes. Well the pants anyway. I wore 2 pairs of socks this morning as well. I was layered beyond recognition. When I woke up it was -5 degrees with a wind chill of -25 or -30. Somewhere in that neighborhood. So yeah I think the spiders don't even get much shelter in my garage.
So round 47 tonight. And grandma et all are supposed to fly back in town this afternoon. Hope they beat the snow!
No thank you! I don't want to be in that kind of cold. You deserve double long underwear. The only advantage is to that is if you have gained any winter weight, you can claim it to be extra layers - of clothes - not fat.
Hey Gaff can I come join you out in your neighborhood??? Because I quit!
Come and live over here, Gnat! :hug We have had a couple of very bright sunny days that started with a dazzling frost and got very mild in the middle. If one has to have winter, it ought to be like this!
