Ancaster Film Fest screening Amazing Grace (Sep 28, 2007) The Ancaster Film Fest will screen the uplifting film, Amazing Grace, on Monday Oct. 1 at 4 and at 7:15 p.m. at Ancaster Silver City. The box office opens at 3:15 pm and 6:15 p.m. and non-member tickets are $9 at the 4 p.m. screening and $10 at the 7:15 p.m. screening. Seating is always more available at the 4 p.m. screening. Amazing Grace is directed by Michael Apted (The Coal Miner's Daughter) and was the closing gala film at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Ioan Gruffudd (Black Hawk Down), Albert Finney (Erin Brockovich), Romola Garai (Vanity Fair), Michael Gambon (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), Ciaran Hinds (Rome) and introduces Youssou N'Dour. Amazing Grace is the inspiring story of how one man's passion and perseverance can change the world. Based on the true life story of William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd), a leader of the British abolition movement, the film chronicles his epic struggle to pass a law to end the slave trade in the late 18th century. Intense opposition Along the way, Wilberforce meets intense opposition from members of Parliament who feel the slave trade is tied to the stability of the British Empire. Several friends, including Wilberforce's minister, John Newton (Albert Finney), a reformed slave ship captain who penned the beloved hymn Amazing Grace, urge him to see the cause through. All proceeds from the screening go to the Hamilton Out of the Cold program.
