I agree with you, Zoo and Frances, maybe the reason it is being released first in the UK - is that this was an important event in UK History, and the American publc was not aware of it until this movie.

BTW, AG telling about an important event in UK history that supposedly not many people outside of the UK are aware of and/or interested in may be the reason why this film did not make it to theatres in many countries (I don't think it was released in any other European country but the UK and Ireland). :hmm:

I know AG had American money backing it, but it is essentially a British film with a British cast about a British historical figure. I think it makes perfect sense that it was released in Britain first, and especially in Liverpool, where so many slaves came and went.

well.... at least there `s a release date!!
GNAT0629- 07-24-2007
What's the release date?? I missed that post! :weeping
StevieT- 07-24-2007
Aug 6th for the UK, Gnat. Not sure about anywhere else.

I was in my local Christian bookstore yesterday and asked about the DVD and was told that they had been given a released date of December 4. :???: That said, a DVD release date still isn't up on the US side of the AG site. If they don't have something in stone a week or two after the UK release, I am going to be seriously tempted to purchase the Region 2 version.

Hard to believe they'd wait six months, isn't it? Still, without gloating, it's usually the other way around! I'm going to buy the DVD and save it (yes, I said save it!) until I'm home after my surgery on the 16th. I can't think of a better distraction, can you?
Gaffer'sGirl- 07-27-2007
End of the year in the U.S. Just speculating but maybe it's timed as a reminder for Awards time.

That sounds like a wonderful idea.

Thanks for that info usHHfan!! Dec 4th!!?? UGH, I can't wait that long, LOL!!! I need it NOW!! Even if I lived in the UK Aug. 6th wouldn't be soon enough!! I think I might have to give in & get a region 2 as well. :(
GNAT0629- 07-30-2007
Well if it indeed comes to DVD on December 4th, it'll be a doubly Merry Christmas in my home. That's the same day that the 3rd Pirates movie comes to DVD here in the States. Two for one sounds good to me!!
Thanks everyone!

Amazing Grace How Sweet The Disc - DVD News
By Rafe Telsch: 2007-08-28 21:51:35
Ever wonder about the origins of “Amazing Grace”? It’s not something I normally think about, but apparently there’s a pretty good story behind it; good enough for a movie by the same name starring Fantastic Four’s Ioan Gruffudd. Now Fox is releasing Amazing Grace on DVD on November 13th.
In the movie, Gruffudd plays William Wilberforce, a leader of the British slavery abolition movement. The movie covers Wilberforce’s struggle to end slave trade in Britain despite harsh opposition. Among Wilberforce’s friends is reformed slave ship captain John Newton (played by Albert Finny) who wrote the beloved hymn “Amazing Grace” to encourage Wilberforce to carry on his cause. Michael Apted (The World Is Not Enough) directs.
For a movie I haven’t heard much about, the DVD is coming with a fair amount of extras. Perhaps this is one of those hidden gems that just slid by. Our critic seemed to like it. Take a look below, and check out Amazing Grace on November 13th.

Thanks, zoo.station. Hadn't seen that one before. I wonder if that is the release date for the U.S., too. I hope so.

Well the thing is, I actually couldn't figure out what country the release date was for. It's definitely not Australia and the UK already has it don't they? That only leaves the US?
