So now you have something to watch during your Christmas/New Year holidays, Kaitlyn. BTW, I think AG is an appropriate movie for this season. Did you buy a dvd for your sister, too? I'm actually planning on watching it as soon as I'm finished up here, it's been a long day trying to get some shopping done at the shopping centre I met Ioan, it was absolutely insane and I need to relax, step forward AG. I was looking for the Notebook for mum which wasn't there and all the DVDs that were there gave me a headache so I went for the CDs instead. :happy The thing that grows my DVD collection is the fact that at Big W you can get new release DVDs for like $20 and all ones that have come out a half year to a year ago are half of that. My teenage self can't resist it when movies are so cheap! I pay more than that to get into the cinema. Honestly, I admit I've never counted my dvds (much as I've never counted my books), so I don't know precisely how many I have in my collection. Perhaps I am a coward and don't want to discover how much I spent on dvds (and books). Generally I don't either but I had to tidy my room (properly) the other day and put all my DVDs and books onto my shelf and I decided to count them. I have a tonne of books, I love them, I've bought 10 of them myself since I started my job but there are loads I want to order in. Books are fantastic, I used to only read the Harry Potter series until I discovered my now favourite author and he could just about open a library with his books alone. Now I'm a tad obsessed with reading but it's good for vocab and stuff.

Every time I move I'm reminded of how many books I actually have - boxes and boxes. As for DVD's - like Stevie, I only buy movies I know I will watch multiple times, unless of course I get the $5.00 special, then I don't mind if I only watch it once and I can share it with my sisters after I'm done and not worry if I get it back quickly or all all. Of course that doesn't include my Ioan ones.

My teenage self can't resist it when movies are so cheap! I pay more than that to get into the cinema. I know there are offers that are hard to resist. I've also run into new releases offered at not much more than you would pay to get into a cinema and dvd that have been out for a year at actually less than a cinema ticket. Books are fantastic, I used to only read the Harry Potter series until I discovered my now favourite author and he could just about open a library with his books alone. I never thought of books as an emotional habit. Guess I need to ponder that one for a while. But I do have a lot, and I notice they collect dust faster than most other things, at least those things that do not generate an electric field. (Sean can polish my rifle any time!) He's the reason I bought National Treasure! I only buy the DVD's that I know we will watch periodically throughout the years. Our cable provider is increasing their video-on-demand selections, including the freebies. Since we pay for cable, there's no reason to pay for DVDs. I also favor those that show a different cut of the movie from its theatrical release, and/or has lots of behind-the-scene goodies. Peter Jackson spoiled the LOTR fans rotten with behind-the-scene goodies! No one has measured up to that bar yet. The Pirates franchise is another fun one for its extras.

LOTR behind the scenes was fantastic. I loved the section where they showed how they rotated the table (with Elijah Wood) to maintain perspective between the Hobbits and larger characters.

Utterly brilliant! And a nice reminder of Aragorn is never unwelcome.....

Gaffer'sGirl- 12-24-2007

Ah yes, he was quite good in that movie and enjoyable to watch.

My personal favorite was when the Maori stuntmen did their special tribute to "the two kings" ... Viggo and Bernard. I love tribal dance and the fact that what they did was usually performed only for VIPs made the whole thing very movng. Watching Viggo cry ... :love2: I'm so glad Viggo is getting the recognition he deserves for the excellence he brings his craft!

Peter Jackson spoiled the LOTR fans rotten with behind-the-scene goodies! No one has measured up to that bar yet. I also like it when dvds show a different cut of the movie from its theatrical release and I like it even better when they show an uncut version of the movie and I love it when they carry lots of behind-the-scenes goodies is a big deciding factor for me when I buy a dvd (though I sometimes think that the extras take some of their magic away from movies). I agree that Peter Jackson is unequalled when it comes to spoiling fans. I'm so glad Viggo is getting the recognition he deserves for the excellence he brings his craft! I'm glad about it, too, though I've got the impression that he is kind of shy and not very interested in fame and that his choice of projects is based on their appeal to him not on how good a career move they can be.

I got to see some Maori dancers do the Haka (sp) in New Zealand. Thrilling. I'm so glad Viggo is getting the recognition he deserves for the excellence he brings his craft! Viggo is an excellent actor. We didn't get Easter Promises, but I'm sure we will if he gets a nomination for his role. Would be interesting to see.

We didn't get Easter Promises, but I'm sure we will if he gets a nomination for his role. Would be interesting to see. He got the nod for the Globes ... does he have to have the Oscar nom for his movie to make it your way? I haven't seen Eastern Promises and I doubt that I will until it's on cable so I can switch it off if and when it gets too intense. But he's been celebrated all over for his performance.

Gaffer'sGirl- 12-24-2007

An Oscar nod would make it more likely. And yes, I've heard there are a few places where the movie is very intense. I'll just cover my eyes and then peek out. That's what I usually do. Unless my fingers are in my ears. Certain sounds can be just as bad as sights.

Yeah...........guess what was under my Christmas tree? .finally got "Amazing grace" on DVD for Christmas! One son gave me that and the other gave me "FF2 - ROSS". (and Mika's CD......I call it my happy music). So....... am totally enthralled with my Ioan fix. Liked the extras too. :applaud: :applaud: Susie D
