I'm looking forward to this DVD also. As to the A-list actor thing. I look at it as he regards that as a goal and you set goals higher than your current reach. Most actors just want to be a regularly working actor, and then having some highly regarded roles. Ioan has reached both those goals, even if he's not a household name. So why not set a higher goal that you may or may not reach? :dunno Anyway it make sense to me. Not here, but elsewhere (in that place that shall not be named) I recently read posts that compare his career to current A-lister's like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Clive Owen or Johnny Depp and then suggesting that Ioan will never reach that level. Well the closest to his age is Clive (nine years older) and both he and Clooney were still doing television ten years ago and certainly not A-list film stars. Depp had done a few roles in minor films and was just releasing Donnie Brasco which kind of broke him through the glass ceiling. Brad Pitt was really the only one who had an A-list career by that point. An actor may find what they think is a wonderful script or story with great co-stars and then find their career is at the mercy of the director and editor. For example Clive's performance in Elizabeth which I found lacking. Though overall I enjoy his acting. Ioan's career is going quite well compared to most actors his age. All actors can look back and see that certain roles may have been detrimental, but that can always change with the next role. Any actor should always keep in the back of their minds that Kathrine Hepburn went from getting an Academy Award to being labeled Box Office poison to coming back getting a few more awards and ranking high on anybody's list. It still happens today - witness John Travolta's up and down, sometimes A-list career. Needless to say whether or not people enjoyed Ioan's performance in FF, it certainly didn't hurt the box office and as we know he has shown his excellent acting ability in other roles like AG, Hornblower, S & G, etc. Sorry for going on so long - I guess the article just triggered the frustration of reading those posts on I**B ;angry: :angry2: This weekend something William Goldman said about Hollywood is very true. - No one knows anything! Including me.

In fact, there's nothing wrong in setting goals higher than your current reach, so why should Ioan not set becoming an A-lister as his goal now that he is a regularly working actor with some highly regarded roles in his resumé? And, yes, we should keep in mind that luck has a role in an actor's career, an actor's career has its ups and downs, and there's not an age by which you either are an A-lister or give up hope to ever become one.

GG, I fully agree with your comments above, especially the first paragraph. If Ioan enjoys good health, and keeps forging ahead as he so far has---------he's young enough,....nobody can predict what will enter into the future for him. I wish him much good luck in securing strong, vibrant roles because it's obvious to me that he's willing to work-----and work hard, and steadily, to accomplish his dream-----whatever it may be.

Agreed with both of you ladies. GG

Question: The 2 DVD set Versus The 1 DVD set
Wal-mart is offering a 2 DVD set of Amazing Grace, while Amazon.com only has a 1 DVD package. Does anyone know anything about the 2 DVD set? The Amazon link has a nice and brief clip with some of the movie, but mostly Ioan and others talking about the story. Interesting to me is that Amazon doesn't list Ioan at all (only Farrell and Finney), but he is the first to talk on the video on their webpage.

I may be wrong, but I think that the 2-disc set offered by Wal-Mart includes a dvd with the movie and all the special features that are in the regular 1-disc set and a CD with "music inspired by the motion picture" that you would normally have to buy separately, that is http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grace-Nicholas-Farrell/dp/B000VNMMQG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-0481447-6302316?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1194095772&sr=1-1 + http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grace-Inspired-Motion-Picture/dp/B000LW7UUK?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1181065445&sr=8-1 Interesting to me is that Amazon doesn't list Ioan at all (only Farrell and Finney), but he is the first to talk on the video on their webpage. Yes, it's pretty interesting that they did not list the actor in the leading role. :hmm:

Hadn't heard about the Wal-mart DVD, ilovemylife, sounds like a good one. What Frances is talking about makes good marketing sense to me. I have the music CD, and it's just lovely! Very calming and devotional at the same time.

ilovemylife- 11-03-2007

Thanks Francis and Shipmate for your responses! I so try not to shop at Wal-mart, but Amazon so far doesn't have the two DVD set and the cost difference is $1.

Shipmate- 11-03-2007

Really think you'll be pleased with it, ilovemylife!

Gaffer'sGirl- 11-04-2007

I can understand Amazon mentioning Albert Finney, but Nicholas Farrell? His part isn't very big and though I recognize him from Chariots Of Fire and a few BBC dramas, I can't imagine that he's that well known, particularly in comparison to Ioan with FF coming out this year.

Frances- 11-04-2007

Perhaps Nicholas Farrell is well-known to the person who wrote AG entry on Amazon and s/he thought he must be well-known to others as well - better known than Ioan - and, therefore, a name that can attract buyers. As for Ioan, I can still recall when I got my copy of FF and realized that the dvd cover bore a review from The Sun where they mentioned Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis but not Ioan. :waaah:

Gaffer'sGirl- 11-04-2007

Quite sad, isn't it?

Frances- 11-04-2007

Yes, that's sad and quite sobering... Whenever I think Ioan is about to reach stardom, his name is overlooked in places where it should be mentioned...

StevieT- 11-04-2007

I agree with you ladies. And it's not as if he's a newbie with no works to cite, is it? Sigh........

Shipmate- 11-04-2007

Awwwwww...............not slighted again, is he?!! What's up with that?? BOOOOOOO!
