A Glimpse Behind Horatio?
I have spotted a trailer for a TV series beginning on Monday night on ITV3, which appears to offer glimpses of Hornblower from the costume perspective. Entitiled "The Story of the Costume Drama", an expressive Ioan in action as Horatio, ends the trailer, which also includes dramas ranging through many historical periods - it should be interesting in general, but may offer behind-the- scenes views of our darling Horry....... :Horatio wink:

Yes Stevie, I saw a brief article about this series, and a quick glance through next week's TV Times shows that each programme examines different aspects of costume dramas, fur instance, Wednesday's programme concentrates on the romantic angle. I am sure that it will include interviews with people who have been in some of the popular dramas - who knows, perhaps Ioan may feature in more than one episode. :love2:

I want to see that program too! :waaah:
I need to move to the UK. Better programming on TV, clearly. Wouldn't have to wait ages for the latest Doctor Whos or completely miss out on programs like this one.

Interesting programme!
I need to move to the UK, too, if I want to be blessed with a better TV programming than the one I am stuck to at the moment.

Not likely they'll have it on BBCAmerica. I would definitely like to watch that, not just for Ioan and Horatio, but in general it sounds interesting. Let us know how it goes.

Awwwwww,........wish I could see it too.........but DO tell us about it,won't you?? Sounds really interesting and fun.

I haven't been able to watch many of these (it's a nightly show) but from the TV guide they will be looking into adventure with Hornblower (and Sharpe!) tomorrow night, so I'll be sure to report! Tonight is locations......
It is wonderful being reminded of great series like Brideshead Revisited. On Monday they went into the original Forsyte Saga and Poldark (no mention of the re-makes  ) as they were landmarks in TV costume drama at the time

I look forward to hearing about it.

Me,too. Look forward to hearing how it turns out.

Okay, tonight's is almost over and I enjoyed it very much. No word from Ioan, (guess they didn't want to go as far as LA to interview him) but plenty of shots of all our favourite expressions. They did interview director Andrew Grieve, however, and he spoke about the problems with the sets and costumes.
Interesting to see the originals of Poldark and the Forsyte Saga again. They were landmarks in British TV costume drama in the sixties and seventies, and I find it slightly disturbing that I remember them so well :???: Personally, I found the costumes in the remake of TFS particularly awesome, but clearly not landmark enough!
Familiar crew like Paul McGann and Dorian Healy popped up in other dramas too, like The Monicled Mutineer. And of course, our sexy Sean discussing how much he loves Sharpe's uniform.

Yeah. Too bad there was no Ioan interview, but some of his expressions can be quite nice to watch. Thanks for telling us about it.
Shipmate- 12-08-2008
Thanks for telling us about it,Stevie, and know it was fun to watch.

For all those who can pick up ITV3, Hornblower is being shown again over Christmas (isn't it nice to know there are some things we can depend on?)
Gaffer'sGirl- 12-09-2008
Somehow, it does seem very appropriate for Christmas. I've seen a few Hornblower collections going out the door at the store. Right now, Ioan is on the cover of two collections of DVD's at our store - Hornblower and The Romance Collection. Fun to spot in the middle of my day  .
StevieT- 12-09-2008
Yes, the Hornblower showing is included in a series called 'The Classic Collection'. I'm sure Ioan would be pleased to know his work has passed into the 'classic' category!
