I find it interesting that Sweeny Todd won Best Musical - certainly all the elements (acting, direction, sets, costumes and of course Stephen Sondheim) were well put together, but it is such a Black Comedy that I can't see the appeal to a general audience. In fact, the people behind us hated it. One woman said "If it didn't have Johnny Depp in it, I'd be really ticked." I imagine they didn't know much about the play it was based on.
Well. I'm loving the fact that with the Hollywood writer's strike threatening the Oscars, our BAFTAs are going to be such a glittering occasion this year as the A list
scrabble for red carpet time! (does this make us a nation of blacklegs?)
As a matter of fact, I've been thinking that the WGA strike is (or may be) a blow to American film and TV industry, but it may turn out to be an opportunity for non-American film and TV industries to get into the highlight.
Let's hope they use it for some good quality productions. I was going to say that maybe they'll actually show the BAFTA's on Network television instead of BBC America. Then, on the other hand, they might have to strike it, so better to stick with BBCAmerica.
The BAFTA nominees were announced but I have no idea who got it.

Thanks for posting that link, Zoo. Too back AG wasn't nominated for anything. Something for Ioan to aim for in the future. He's been involved in many award winning projects, hopefully an individual award will come one day.
