I hope he is in the UK looking for work, too. With writers striking and the SAG out in sympathy of the writers, this must not be the best moment for an actor to look for work in Hollywood.
I suppose, as ever, this all comes down to his agents. As he still has an agent over here, I hope they are working hard for him, but their track record on this leaves a lot to be desired!

He can come to Australia and help get some Aussie movies done! Okay, maybe not...oh well, looks like he'll have to settle with his Moon movie for a while because something tells me he'd still be trying in America, not the UK.

:happy Please tell me that was a joke, I'll be one cruel human being for laughing if you really are all twisted and in pain!
yep, joke. Although, I´m in a bit of pain now, but nothing serious.
About the Globes: Apparently it is going to be just a press conference, wich makes me furious, cos my favourite thing about awards it´s the show and all that. But well.....
Gaffer'sGirl- 01-08-2008
Maybe with the Globes cancelling, it will put enough pressure on Producers to settle the strike before the Oscars.
Don't know what kind of pressure is put on actors from other countries who are also SAG members. I suppose much like in the U.S., if the movie's script is set with no re-writing it would be no problem. If it's an in progress sort of thing, it might be acceptable in terms of not breaking the strike since it's in another country, but may be frowned upon behind the scenes, especially if there is any connection with a U.S. company. Hard to know the pressures that go on behind the scenes.

Yeah, it's sad really because as Nikki Blonksy (Hairspray) said, she has been waiting all her life to go to an awards ceremony and just as she gets nominated, they might not go ahead. Poor girl!
Gaffer'sGirl- 01-08-2008
That would be sad. Kind of like the years when countries boycott the Olympics because of politics. When the Games are supposed to bring us together despite political differences.

Honestly, I did not think the writers' strike would have lasted this long. I thought Producers would have settled the strike sooner, considered that the damage for them is not just in terms of actors not showing up at awards shows but also in terms of having to delay or delete the filming of movies or tv series.

I thought so too Frances, but if the TV stations are same as here they will simply run repeats and as most of their income is generated by advertising , they will only be inconvenienced at present.
As for the big studios, well look at all the movies hitting the box office at the moment and you would have no idea there is a strike! Whilst the money is pouring in on ticket sales they won't be losing money.

For the movie industry the pain right now is with the everyday behind the scene workers - grips, gaffers, camera, etc. They tend to live more paycheck to paycheck. So, films out now were finished well before the strike. If it continues, they may have product until next summer, if what they film doesn't need rewriting. If it continues problems will probably show possibly next summer or late this year. There is a pending Directors' Strike, too.
TV - we'll just keep getting more Deal or No Deal, reality television or repeats. Time to pull out the DVD's that the writers aren't getting paid for. :???: .

Well ... dang!!!!! No gowns! No bling bling!! No snarking all over the web the next morning?? Guess my InStyle magazine will be a lot thinner for the next couple of months.
Crap. All along we thought the world would go up in some sort of nuclear explosion, but here it is ... the end of all things because of the WGA strike!
Who'd a thunk ...

Well, at least Hugh Laurie won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Drama last year, so it's not like he or "House" (the series) lack the recognition they deserve.
Silvia- 01-16-2008
true!
I guess I shouldn´t complain. Better luck next time
